Daily Inspiration: Meet Carrie Remillard

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carrie Remillard.

Hi Carrie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
After high school, I really wanted to do makeup for the entertainment industry and was told to get my Cosmetology license and then go to makeup school. After makeup school, I was doing makeup for low-budget films and serving tables to make money. The restaurant I worked for closed down so I ended up finding an assistant job at a salon. That is when I fell in love with doing hair. I slowly built up my clientele in the town I grew up in, which was a suburb of LA. In 2009, I decided I wanted to live in north county San Diego and made a move. I found a busy salon to build my clientele all over. It took a while to find the salon that suited me best. While I loved all the salons I worked at, there was still something missing. In October 2019, I opened up my own salon suite with Sola Salons. This was the perfect move for me. I can now provide a completely private and personalized one-on-one experience for my guests.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I feel like I did have a lot of bouncing around, but I did enjoy the journey. The hardest part was pivoting after having kids. My schedule had to slow down after having my son in 2014 and then would pick up and then slowed again after my daughter was born in 2017. Getting shut down for half the year of 2020 was also quite a struggle for the entire beauty industry.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a hair colorist all the way! It’s what ignites my fire behind the chair. I specialize in natural dimensional hair color using all organic products. I feel like my attention to detail and really listening to what my client is looking for is what sets me apart from others. I value all of my guests and their time. I was recently certified in Invisible Bead Extensions a sew in method to increase the fullness and length of a client’s hair and I love the transformation I can give someone in just a few hours. The smiles on my guest’s faces is what it’s all about.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
Lately, I’m all about anything that helps me tackle life and business! I’m always tuning into Thriver’s Society podcast with Britt Seva. Right now, I am reading Daring Greatly by Brene Brown and The Magic by Rhonda Byrne, which helps remind me there is so much to be grateful for everyday.
