Daily Inspiration: Meet Dr. Armin Foghi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Armin Foghi.

Hi Dr. Foghi, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey of providing care to others began when I was a young boy, at the age of 16, in Iran during the Persian Gulf War. I traveled as a refugee through Asia, Europe and North America with my younger brother, who was then 11 years old, to finally land in the great country of United States. My life started with a responsibility of raising my younger brother, with no knowledge of the English language, just two suitcases and only ten dollars in my pocket. I made my financial foothold by selling ice-cream and cleaning windows while attending school fulltime. Having the dream to be a medical doctor since age 12, I was able to start college with a full scholarship and completed my PhD in cell molecular biology and genetics prior to medical school. My medical career has been the most amazing venture of all, and I ended my training at University of New Mexico as a cardiologist.

Immediately after my graduation, I took a position as the Chief of Cardiology in southern New Mexico, where I was able to establish the first chest pain center in the region. As an invasive cardiologist I truly found it gratifying to take the most advance and comprehensive cardiovascular procedures to the underserved areas of the state of New Mexico. It was during this period when I discovered the extent and severity of venous disease, which is underdiagnosed and undertreated across the country, especially in the underserved areas such as New Mexico. For the next 15 years, I committed myself to diagnosis, education and treatment of venous disease. I managed to start up multiple clinics around New Mexico, each more than 200 miles away from each other, to fulfill my vision of providing comprehensive vein care for residents of the state. The Myo vein clinics eventually received a national recognition and acknowledgement by becoming the first “Center of Excellence” in the region. The clinic was utilized as the training institution for physicians from across the country, while continuing to provide all the vein treatments in New Mexico and neighboring states.

My services were needed in a more populated part of the country that may still be considered underserved when it came to vein treatments. I was blessed to be introduced to Dr. Bunked at La Jolla Vein Care who shares the exact passion and vision for venous disease and therapy as I do. Dr. Bunke’s incomparable directorship, vast knowledge and reputation in the field of vein disease, and exemplary model for addressing the venous disease crisis in Southern California, left no doubt in my mind that spending the remainder of my career in Southern California was the right decision to make.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I consider all of my accomplishments simply a blessing, and I believe that God will never give you more that you can handle. My struggles from my early childhood only made me appreciate what I have today and gave me an opportunity to help those who need assistance.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I believe that the education I provide to my patients, along with my accuracy and speed of performing the procedures, are my most gifted part of my practice. As I always like to say: Education always above and before medication. I am proud of my father and mother (Lord rest their souls) for planting the seed of becoming a humble servant in my soul. I consider myself a medical servant who considers the act of giving the most gratifying act of all. My traveling experience has given me the opportunity to see the world and learn five languages. Additionally, the faith that has provided me the will and dedication has played an integral part to where I am today. All of which are the main components of my success.

What makes you happy?
Knowing that God is always watching over me is the most comforting feeling that I carry with me throughout the day. My beautiful daughters and unbelievable wife are what always puts a smile on my face. I am so blessed with having such a special and loving wife who has been an even greater mother to my two beautiful daughters, both of who I am extremely proud of. My wife and I are both professional Latin ballroom dancers who have performed nationally and internationally. It was the sound of the music and the love for dancing that brought us together. So, as you can imagine, music and dance play a very pivotal part in our personal and family life.
