Daily Inspiration: Meet Elaina Chu and Dylan G-Bowley of 4×2 Dog Walking Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elaina Chu and Dylan G-Bowley.

Hi Elaina and Dylan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Dylan: I grew up in a rural town outside of Rochester, NY playing soccer and taking ballet. I have two older sisters who I followed into the arts and led me on the path to becoming a professional dancer. After graduating early from high school, I was accepted and attended the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City, NY. Earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts, I then started my more than 10-year career as a professional dancer. I was able to perform all around the world, dancing on stages from the Hollywood Bowl to Mupa Budapest.

Elaina: I have been a figure skater for what feels like my entire life. Growing up in the Bay Area, I was a competitive singles skater until age 18 and moved down to San Diego to pursue and complete my undergraduate degree at UCSD. From there, I coached my way through college and, after graduating, decided to return to skating as a professional performing artist. I began working for various skating companies, and for the next nine years, I traveled to 35+ countries and worked alongside international artists from around the world, most of the time while sailing the seas.

Our paths crossed in 2017 while we were both performing onboard Royal Caribbean cruise lines. While living on a ship in very close quarters, we got to know each other quickly, finding a common commitment, dedication and pride in our profession and a deep love for adventure and the outdoors. In 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic shut down much of the entertainment industry, we were forced to consider the uncertainty of our future. Having shared the common value of great love for our jobs, we knew that we both needed to create work that would spark some happiness during this time. Through countless discussions and debates, it became clear that we both wanted dogs to be a part of our new lives, and opening a business providing care to dogs seemed to be the perfect fit.

We are grateful that our company has given us the flexibility to pursue the many things we have going on so that we can continue to live and explore this wonderful city! We certainly feel we have made the right choice since launching 4×2 Dog Walking Services in September 2020. Dylan ( is working as a DJ with Dancing DJ Productions (, studying to become a certified dog trainer, and just recently set some of his choreography on dancers at Boston Ballet II ( Elaina is into her 1st year earning her Ed.D in Sport & Performance Psychology with Specialization in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and has resumed coaching figure skating six days a week at San Diego Ice Arena. We are very proud that we figured out what we wanted and stayed the course until we had it. Throughout all the challenges we have been through this past year, our 4×2 Family has given us the happiness and support we have needed.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
From a personal perspective, we have both undergone a major lifestyle change and there has been a definite learning curve to adjusting to life “on land” together. When it comes to being both life partners and work partners, communication, time management and compartmentalization have been key. We are constantly finding new and better ways to show appreciation for one another while also making sure to deliver the best possible services to our clients!

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about 4×2 Dog Walking Services?

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Being first-time business owners and entering into unknown territory, there were a lot of unanticipated factors we could not have overcome without the help of these crucial organizations and people. We are so grateful to have had access to the resources that we did! And of course, many thanks to our supportive family and friends, whom we continually bounce ideas off of.

The Actors Fund provided valuable information to us as artists in navigating the pandemic, settling into a new lifestyle, and even offering scholarships for “pivoting careers.” We are most grateful for the resources that they provided.

SCORE Business Mentorship advised us in legal matters to ensure our business setup was efficient and comprehensive.

Dennis Ilog ( advised us in website design, and we continue to consult with him to boost media visibility and advertising. Whitney G-Bowley helped us create our unique logo and made our ideas come to life.
