Daily Inspiration: Meet Emily Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Jones.

Hi Emily, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m a 25-year-old photographer born and raised under these blue and gold San Diego skies. I’m a professional sunset chaser, toddler tamer, dress fluffer, wedding party wrangler, tissue-finder, hair-fixer, and most importantly, your own personal hype woman.

I’ve had a camera in my hand for the last nine years. I started taking photos in 2012 for high school credit. I knew I didn’t care for drawing or painting but a photography class was right up my alley. I borrowed my mom’s crop-frame Nikon camera for those classes and on the day I graduated (in 2014) I was gifted my own camera.

Fast forward to 2017, my son was born and I decided to start my photography career as a way to spend as much time with him as possible. I started to study photography, asking to take photos of friends, and getting to know my camera inside and out. Eventually, I got to a place where people wanted to hire me! I was thrilled. Since then, I’ve worked my way up to weddings and elopements and have started social media managing for other businesses.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I don’t think anything worth having comes easily! That being said, The biggest challenge for me has been figuring out how to do everything (the right way) myself. From payments and contracts to what I should charge, scheduling, building websites, taxes, licenses, etc. It can definitely feel a little overwhelming at times. However, I have found a lot of successful creatives that are willing to help fellow creatives learn from their experience. Whether it’s via YouTube or Instagram, there are endless resources for people just starting out!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a “visual storyteller” (aka photographer.) I want to capture your authentic story through my lens.

I am known for my warm and earthy style. You’ll frequently see me giving my couples and clients more natural or prompt-like posing to get them moving. I want the goofy and the messy, the wild and spontaneous.

My goal is for my sessions to feel natural and for my clients to feel as comfortable as possible! I want to slip away and capture the uncontrollable laughter and butterflies your person gives you, freezing these moments so you can remember exactly how they felt.

If you’re looking for someone who will be more than a photographer, you’ve found her!
