Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Karhio.
Hi Kristen, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
In college, I had two very different personas – division 1 heptathlete and art student. I graduated with an art degree but felt compelled to go into the fitness industry. I opened my own kettlebell gym and ran that business for 9 years. We built a family-like community with the most amazing people and am grateful for that network to this day.
During those years, I co-created a sports products company. This brand allowed me to merge my two passions – sports and art. I became obsessed with branding, apparel, and product photography. I borrowed gym members to model for me in the alleyways of North Park. I wasn’t exactly sure what I was doing yet, but I was figuring it out along the way and it was so much fun. Working as the Creative Director for my own company allowed me explore new skills. We got to travel around the country, sponsoring lifting events and meeting really cool people.
Running these two businesses was very demanding – physically, mentally, and emotionally – but the experiences I gained and people I connected with made it well worth it. When it was time to move on, I started offering my photography and creative services to other business owners. I realized there were a lot of creative skills I picked up along the way, that could help them stand out and feel a little less stressed. This is how Karhio Creative was born.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s never 100% smooth sailing, but that’s how we level up. Towards the end of my coaching career, I battled with injury and chronic pain. It made my job very difficult. The gym also had construction and permitting issues that created overwhelming financial burden. Then when COVID hit, the sports products company struggled with supply chain issues and canceled events. This was a hard time for everyone. I had to start a new career and wasn’t sure what to do with myself.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I started Karhio Creative to help over-whelmed business owners stand out in the crowd, by highlighting what makes them unique. I specialize in photography but have a lot of skills to share. I’m happy to take anything creative off their plate, so they can focus on what they’re best at. Here’s a list of services I provide:
