Daily Inspiration: Meet Megan Cornelius

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Cornelius.

Hi Megan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve had type 1 diabetes since I was ten years old. As I grew into adulthood, I realized how isolating a chronic illness can be. So I decided to start publicly sharing about my diabetes on social media. Being one of the first people to share openly on Instagram about diabetes, I saw my audience grow due to my authenticity. Eventually, I decided I wanted to try to help companies grow their social media presence and landed a diabetes company as my first client! From there, I started helping other companies grow their presence through authenticity, which eventually leads me to work with companies on other aspects of marketing as well.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Falling into my first client was easy because the niche was something I was very familiar with – diabetes! But as I started to take on new clients, I realized that I needed to be more organized in learning about companies and their industries so I could provide the best guidance. Also, as social media platforms are always changing, I have to be able to keep up with changes, which can be a challenge if they are not forthcoming with changes being made.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in social media marketing, with experience in other forms of marketing as well – building simple websites, newsletters, blogs, etc. I’m known specifically for my ability to keep a pulse on online community to keep up with the trends. I’m most proud of growing my first client’s Instagram page organically from less than 300 to over 11,000 in about two years and a TikTok page from nothing to 17,000 in a few months. What sets me apart from others is that I put myself into the client’s online community to thoroughly understand it. This allows me to better reach the right audiences for the client.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Being social and engaging! I grew my personal Instagram from being authentic, and that’s what I try to do for my clients. Also, persevering. It’s like solving a puzzle to figure out what works best, and I find that challenge exciting.
