Daily Inspiration: Meet Nora Brown and Edgar Gutierrez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nora Brown and Edgar Gutierrez.

Hi Nora and Edgar, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Edgar:

Everything started when I joined the US Marines, and I started to travel overseas. I started to travel to other countries overseas on deployments and saw many beautiful places that I could never even imagine existed. I did not want to forget about those images that went through my mind, and I wanted to be able to share them with family and friends. So, I got myself a camera and took pictures of beautiful places and people. “An image says more than a thousand words.”

The more pictures I took, the more intrigued I became about photography. I just wanted to learn everything about photography. Finally, many years later, after leaving the military and completing my bachelor’s degree, I decided to invest a lot more time in my true passion, photography. I have been so lucky to run into my partner Nora Brown, create a partnership with her, and share our many trades skill sets and experiences.

Nora:

I grew up in a picturesque Northern Maine town at the end of the Appalachian Trail, my mother was a photographer, so I grew up with a camera in my hand and took photos of everyone and everything. I have an old trunk with thousands of photos and photo albums in it. I find beauty in everything and everyone. Everyone has a story, and I like to convey that story in my images through the little details, like the mystery in their eyes, the joy I see when they are doing what they love, and their smiles. When we laugh, our beauty shines through.

I started to get serious about photography in 2016, creating a small local business focusing on high school seniors and family photography, logo design, and photo editing. I gained a following on social media, and some of my photos were featured in national publications. In the past year, I made some big life changes, and I took a break from the work of photography but never stopped taking photos.

Edgar and I connected through social media when he hired me to create a new logo for his photography business. We discovered we had a lot in common and developed a close friendship. We decided to combine our talents and create End Photography International (Edgar & Nora Digital Photography). Edgar is a fantastic photographer who works hard to perfect his craft. Although I love to be behind the lens, my creative passion is in what happens after, in the editing. To me, that’s a big part of the art. I’ve been dividing my time between Maine and California; I look forward to relocating and pursuing my passion.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Edgar:

It was never an easy way since the same military duties that took me to all those beautiful places were the same duties that held me back from investing more time into my photography passion. Being in the Marines and pursuing a high-level education made it hard for me to find enough time to gain the knowledge and experience to be a pro-level photographer and have the skills to capture timeless images.

Nora:

So far, as a business, we haven’t had any significant obstacles. The biggest challenge is standing apart from the millions of other photographers doing the same thing, making sure people really notice that you have something exclusive to offer your clients that no one else has.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work, what you specialize in, what are you most proud of?  What sets you apart?

Nora:

We specialize in portrait & travel photography. We both feel photography tells a story, and we want to convey that with our photos. Travel is a passion of ours, and we love to experience and photograph the local culture, people, and of course food.

We are known for personal attention to our clients, giving them extra time and attention. It’s a creative process. Listening to their ideas and blending them with our ideas to plan the perfect shoot. Having two of us on location, we ensure every detail is flawless, so you don’t have to worry. Having a woman photographer on set will bring some great female energy to the shoot and hopefully, make our clients feel more comfortable in front of the camera.

Edgar:

I started taking landscape photos while traveling to all these exotic places, such as Australia and Greece. That motivated me to capture breathtaking pictures that when a person’s eyes see them, they can feel being in that place at that time. I have also been to places like Afghanistan and Iraq where the pain and destruction of war can be seized in an image. I like to pay attention to the smallest details when taking my pictures so I can communicate what my eyes have seen to other people’s eyes. Now, I like taking pictures while traveling, fashion, and lifestyle.

Nora:

What am I most proud of?  As a mom, my first answer is always my children. I have a daughter in the United States Air Force and a son working in Wind Technology. I hope they see how hard I am working for this, following my dreams, and are proud of me too. I’m proud of the art I create from our portraits, the recognition I’ve received, and the excitement in my clients when they see their photos for the first time.

As women, we often don’t see our own beauty, and when I can show a client how beautiful they are, it’s the best feeling! It’s one of my favorite parts of the work. I’m proud of Edgar, his story, and his dedication to his craft. He’s always striving to be better. I’m grateful for his friendship and partnership.

What are your plans for the future?
We look forward to becoming the best photographers in the market and providing our clients with the best product and service possible (and making the whole thing a great experience for them).

We plan to expand internationally and keep growing as a team. We look forward to interacting with our clients and helping them figure out their social media and/or business needs. Our main goals are putting smiles on our clients’ faces and delivering quality products and customer satisfaction. Carpe Somnia.
