Meet Alyssa Davies of ShowingPASS

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Davies.

Hi Alyssa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The year was 2013, I was 23 years old, had recently graduated with a business degree from CSUF and life was pretty carefree. I was working as a waitress while I applied for more “adult career” options. I wasn’t getting any traction, so when my restaurant offered me a promotion into management, I accepted. They let me know I would be moving to Denver, CO to open a new location. I was born and raised in San Diego so moving to a new state was an exciting prospect. Literally, one week later, I found out I was pregnant. In that moment, I thought my life was over. We made a doctor’s appointment as soon as possible at which point the doctor informed me I was about five months along and it was a girl! In that moment, life got real and I was terrified. Little did I know my daughter would become my “why” and the biggest blessing in my life.

I needed to figure out a “real” career and fast as I now had a child to provide for and did not want to do that on a restaurant salary. I went to visit my hero and role model, my grandmother. She had been a single mom and a school teacher in San Diego and single-handedly acquired 14 multiunit apartment buildings and a self-made real estate badass. She told me real estate was in my blood and to look into getting my real estate license. The next day I started my courses.

After receiving my license, it was a challenge to get going. My first year in real estate consisted of open houses every weekend, lots of cold calling, and 0 deals. Luckily, I had a very supportive, very patient baby daddy/partner who worked two jobs and supported my fruitless endeavors. Then, a day I will never forget, a title rep name Ryan Lipsey called me to see how I was doing and offer me more pointless lists to call. I broke down to him and was on the verge of quitting. He introduced me to his friend John Reeves.

After meeting John, I was skeptical at best. I agreed to be his assistant if I could start getting paid immediately. He agreed. John saw something in me that I didn’t see in myself. It took less than a week before I had my first deal in escrow under John’s mentorship. That first year with John, I closed out 16 transactions, then 23, then 27, and so on until I reached 42 deals per year. Each year my volume and confidence in real estate grew. I started being recognized for my accomplishments from SDAR, I was named 40 under 40 two years in a row and made it as a top finalist for realtor of the Year in 2018 and 2020. Now I have been promoted to sales manager at Reef Point Realty and manage a team of 30 agents to help them learn and grow.

As a Realtor, I noticed how challenging the job was and how as an agent, I am always on call. It started to affect my daughter and husband because I was working all the time. I knew there had to be a better solution to still serve my clients and be available for my family. That is when the idea for ShowingPASS was born! A new passion was ignited in me, helping Realtors better balance work/home life. I told the idea to my best friend, we partnered, co-founded ShowingPASS Inc., and got to work. We built a solution and pitched it to SDMLS we have now developed a product which will be launching as a beta test in the San Diego market at the end of July. This tool will allow buyers to view homes through their agent without their agent needing to be present. Our hope is to revolutionize the real estate industry and make the showing process easier for everyone.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road! My journey has been filled with endless challenges. One of my biggest struggles has been how to balance entrepreneurial work like being a mom and wife. I have really had to learn to set boundaries for work and my husband has been incredibly supportive even though I know it is beyond annoying to be with someone who likes working 24/7. COVID in itself was a huge challenge and also a blessing because it opened a true need for our product and allowed us some time during lockdown to work on ShowingPASS and get it off the ground.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
ShowingPASS is a real estate tech tool for showings. It allows agents to be more effective for their clients. We verify client’s identities and tie them to an agent’s license to allow direct access to homes without their agent. This allows the agent to show more homes to their clients and be more available to analysis and offer writing.

No one has been able to integrate this into the everyday real estate process. This will change the way people buy houses, I am most proud of the fact we will help agents free up time for their families. As real estate professionals, we constantly have to weigh our client’s needs against our family’s needs. It will be great to allow direct access to homes for our clients if we are unavailable. I want readers to know a great realtor doesn’t get their value from opening doors. A great realtor is going to gain their value through their property analysis, negotiation, and guidance through the escrow process.

How do you define success?
I define success by improving the real estate sales process and allowing Realtors more freedom to not have to choose between a client or an important moment with their family. I want Realtors to not have to decide whether to go show their clients a home or go to their child’s little league game. This tool is a great alternative to ensure our clients can view the home they want when they want and the realtor can have a family life as well.
