Exploring Life & Business with Andrea Artenstein of Java Earth Coffee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Artenstein.

Hi Andrea, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
After studying consumer psychology and graduating, I worked in the fashion and beauty industries, doing PR along with market research and email marketing. Finally, after years spent in the corporate world, I decided I wanted to work in something smaller with more flexibility. That was the impetus for joining my family’s business, Java Earth Coffee. I came into the team in 2018 and gradually found my place there from a professional standpoint. I now apply my background in marketing and consumer psychology into helping further develop the Java Earth Coffee brand and oversaw the company’s rebrand in 2019. Through my work there, I am continuously working alongside my parents and brother Alex to evolve Java Earth and continue to fully integrate us into the community that’s been so welcoming from day one.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When my parents first opened Java Earth Coffee in 2010, they made it a priority to fully embrace the neighborhood. They made a huge effort to get to know all of their customers and now, more than a decade later, many of those customers have essentially become family. One of the biggest challenges we’ve faced was learning the restaurant industry in general. This was our first concept in the industry, and while my parents came to the table with a strong business background and love for food, there was still much left to be learned and we’re still learning everyday!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Java Earth Coffee?
At Java Earth Coffee, I oversee the marketing and branding for the business and am instrumental in our community outreach efforts.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
After more than ten years in North Pacific Beach, we’re expanding our footprint to La Jolla where we’re opening our second location later this year. My brother, Alex, and I are looking forward to this opportunity to be involved in the process from the ground up this time and to be able to share the Java Earth Coffee experience with more San Diegans and visitors alike.
