Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Peterson.
Hi Ashley, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was that kid in the 1980s that watched the “real estate channel” (like who does that!). My love of houses and architecture began when I was young. I enjoyed building my own Lego houses and have fond memories of driving over to visit open houses on Palm Beach island after a Sunday breakfast. Fast forward to real-life… graduated college, moved out to San Diego but chose a “safer” path. Although I have a great love and joy for helping students, I felt my life and career were lacking. By 2008 I was working as a listing and marketing manager for a successful Realtor where my passion was coaxed out.
I will say that as a past third-grade teacher and community college instructor, my philosophy focused on serving a diverse student body, and was able to seamlessly transfer this passion to residential real estate. I “hear” what my clients have to say, develop a specific plan tailored to their individual needs and goals, and provide the duty and care to see the transaction through.
With the constant real estate buzz, I rely on daily meditation and yoga to stay balanced. It’s all about family and we enjoy going on family adventures with our young son, usually a hike on a new trail, a trip to the world-famous San Diego zoo, or just enjoying a day at Del Mar beach. There is never a dull moment with two tabby cats (both rescues), our yellow lab, and Pitt bull (also a rescue). It is an absolute luxury to live in San Diego, and I do not take it for granted. As such, I am involved in many philanthropic causes, giving back to her community and mother Earth.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Author Brene Brown turned me on to a beautiful quote from a famous speech by Theodore Roosevelt called the Man in the Arena. Because not everything goes to plan. Yes, there’s been pain, but there has been great learning, growth and triumph, it all makes me who I am today. For example when I was new to the biz and not comfortable asking someone if they’re prequalified. Let’s just say I learned my lesson and now I am able to ask hard questions to best help my clients. As agents, our clients look to us as knowledgeable professionals, and sometimes that means asking uncomfortable questions; whatever is in the best interest of our clients. Other challenges include burnout/ keeping mentally strong. Meditating, affirmations, asking for help, the company you keep. It all goes back to the why. Why do I do this? Because I love helping people reach their goals and I love everything houses.

Someone who is heavily involved in a situation that requires courage, skill, or tenacity, as opposed to someone sitting on the sidelines and watching, is sometimes referred to as “the man in the arena”.
That pretty much sums up what it takes to be successful in real estate and in life. Whenever I’m having a moment, I often refer to this poem and it gives me the strength to keep fighting for my clients.
