Exploring Life & Business with Ghoncheh Ayazi of Golden Source Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ghoncheh Ayazi.

Hi Ghoncheh, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I always knew from a very young age I wanted to study medicine. When I actually got to pre-med at UCSD, I quickly became disillusioned with the Western allopathic medical model that treats the human body as a machine and simply masks symptoms. I then turned to study cognitive science which is what stimulated my interest in the connection between the mind and body. I worked in cognitive science research for a while but really felt like something was missing – something more embodied and esoteric – spiritual even.

I studied yoga for a month at an ashram in India which was amazing, and that was what first exposed me to traditional medicine (in India, it’s Ayurveda). When I returned, I quickly realized that I wanted to study holistic medicine as a career but wasn’t sure which route to go. I came across Traditional Chinese Medicine and learned the philosophy of how the human body is a microcosm of nature, with an inseparable connection between mind and body. Immediately I knew that was the direction I needed to go.

Starting my own practice right after school was something I never thought twice about especially coming from a family of business owners. Now I get to live my dream by helping people in the most deeply meaningful and significant way I could ever imagine, and I’m so excited I chose this path. Or rather, this path chose me.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road, and I don’t think it ever is for anyone who has gone through medical school and then becomes a business owner. Chinese medicine school is a grueling 4-5 year full-time, year-round doctorate-level program that is so demanding and intense. You have to really want it to be able to make it through the constant exams, late nights studying, and massive amounts of rote memorization of material and essentially learning a new way of seeing the world. After you finish grad school then you have to take multiple rigorous board exams to be able to practice the medicine. That’s when my first gray hairs begin to sprout. It’s hard as hell but at least with being in school, you are in a little “bubble” with all the structure of a safe space.

Once you become a business owner, though, you’re out in the wild wild west. It requires a completely different skill set, none of which is ever taught in school, and it is much less safe and protective. Running a business is inherently risky and at times terrifying. You have to tolerate extreme levels of uncertainty and stress. You’re constantly figuring things out and making mistakes as you go, and you really have to believe in your mission to make it through the countless dark days. But it’s also the most rewarding thing you can do because you get to be your own boss and birth something big out of nothing. It’s alchemy, and it’s a huge privilege and honor.

We’ve been impressed with Golden Source Wellness, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My holistic medical practice is Golden Source Wellness where I specialize in holistic endocrinology, women’s health and fertility using 100% natural, proven and effective therapies. I use a potent and highly individualized combination of acupuncture, herbal medicine, nutritional therapy, and mind-body medicine (meditation/visualization practices) to correct and treat the root cause of various hormone conditions.

What sets me apart is my philosophy towards patient care. I strongly believe that every individual is innately powerful and whole and has within them a healing intelligence embodied within every cell. This intelligence is what enables them to heal to whatever extent they desire. Healing is an internal process, and my role is to simply facilitate that process, empower and educate in order to help the individual break free from their symptoms and finally get their life back.

Honestly, I’m most proud of the fact that I have the privilege of practicing this medicine in the first place. Chinese medicine is the most sophisticated and powerful medical system in the history of humanity. The rapid and positive results I see my patients achieve using this traditional medicine is incredibly inspiring and serves as a daily reminder that natural medicine is neither weak nor slow as many are led to believe.

I want folks to know that I offer a Free Initial Consultation where you can come into the clinic and meet with me in person in a relaxed, no-pressure environment, share all about your unique health situation and actually be listened to and heard. I will answer all of your questions and tell you if I think my natural therapies can help – which they almost always can.

How do you define success?
This is a great question and is something I’m constantly pondering. If we don’t know our definition of success, we won’t ever know when we’ve “made it”, so I love to reflect on this. I define success as getting to live your life in a very intentional way, where you have the freedom to choose exactly how you use your time and where you place your energy. Choosing my own schedule and having regular time off without stress is a key image of success.

For me, to be successful is also to be known in a very public way. It’s to have my name and practice coming up at a dinner party where I’m not even present, where someone is sharing how much I’ve helped them on their healing journey and sharing that message with others who are seeking help. To be successful is to have a really busy practice where I can help as many people as possible.
