Exploring Life & Business with Karie Bobzin of Design On Trend

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karie Bobzin.

Hi Karie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Growing up, I remember, not always feeling confident in the clothes I had to choose from in my closet. Each year I would have a few nice pieces, and I would creatively build around them. When I got it right, I felt like I could conquer the world. That’s when I realized the importance of Fashion…not for vanity, but for confidence. Although I didn’t pursue a career in the industry right away…I loved Fashion! Fast forward to after my corporate career and the birth of my two children. I was looking for something to do with my time as a stay-at-home Mom. I attended a pop-up clothing event at a friend’s home around the holidays in 2012 and met Gayle Shea. She was running the pop-up. We became fast friends and I began to help her with her business. We would load, unload, set-up, and tear down these clothes for each show and it was labor-intensive. (She came up with an idea for a Fashion Truck to make things easier and Runaway Runway was born and still exists in LA today.) I continued to assist her on the truck and I saw women’s eyes light up when I would help them find the perfect outfit or dress a hard-to-fit client with jeans…it was magical. I knew I had found what I was meant to do. My dream was to have my own Mobile Fashion Business someday. So, when we moved to The Bay Area in 2016, I started planning for just that. After getting the family settled in school and the community, I started doing Pop-Ups. They were wildly successful. Women loved shopping with their friends, having personal styling and great value. But, one thing or another kept the truck out of reach until Fall of 2021. Then once the truck was sitting in my driveway…it took almost a year to complete. It’s been an extraordinary experience building it and now we are up and running and it’s going great. We are participating in so many local events, still doing home shows, and now able to be the fashion go-to for whomever needs that wardrobe overhaul, an outfit, or just a new pair of jeans. It’s a joy to see women feeling confident in the latest trends that Design On Trend provided. It’s come full circle for me…really a dream come true. I always have the perfect thing to wear and I strive to bring that to anyone who wants it! Looking your best and feeling you best leads to being your best and that’s what it’s all about…especially for the hard-to-fit and those who don’t like to shop. I encourage women to try new styles and ensure them they can wear all the latest trends tastefully and affordably. Bringing Fashion to our clients in the most comfortable and convenient way to shop, we think, is the wave of the future. Its online pricing within all the perks of in-store shopping brought right to your door! I absolutely love what I do!!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Once I really made the decision to go for it… it’s been relatively smooth. Of course, COVID held up the progress of the Truck completion. There were times I wondered what I had gotten myself into, but I’m so happy I didn’t quit. Now, the only thing is learning how to maneuver this giant truck into places! At times it’s just plain comical.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Design On Trend?

We also do local charity events for the schools. In addition, we partner with other local women-owned small businesses to help grow each network.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Going to our Family cottage on Higgins Lake in Michigan. Beautiful freshwater, water skiing, and being with my large family. We take our kids back every summer to experience the same.
