Exploring Life & Business with Nicholas Marion of Fit Athletic

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicholas Marion.

Hi Nicholas, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am an Arizona transplant and have been residing in San Diego for 11 years. I have a beautiful wife, Jacqueline, and two fur babies, Peanut and Cookie. I am obsessively curious about the human body and helping people realize their true health potential. Over my career, I have been a leader in the fitness industry with over 18 years of experience working with high-school, collegiate, and professional athletes. On the weekends you can catch me swimming, biking and running. I am pursuing my Ph.D. in health and human performance at Concordia University Chicago and have my master’s of education in physical education from Point Loma Nazarene University.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My path has been very unconventional to most. Throughout my career, I have always followed my gut, which led me through a slumdog millionaire of fitness-type path. You name it, and I have done it in the fitness industry. I started as an entry-level trainer and worked my way to gym owner. Along the way, many mistakes were made as a young trainer and gym owner. Some significant lessons I learned are that people and relationships matter! Your network is your net worth! When I was a scrappy young lad, I cared most about processes and getting things done versus enjoying being in the moment with people who mattered. My father passed away when I was a freshman in college, and my brother was incarcerated for almost ten years in the same year. This taught me a challenging but essential lesson, and that is to appreciate every moment with people that you love. There will always be challenges in life, and it is necessary to perceive them as an opportunity for growth.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I would say that luck is not as important as consistency and availability. People will never say that I am lucky. That is because I am highly consistent and dependable, a quality most successful people seek. Therefore, I do not believe in luck. I believe in dependability which leads down a path to success.
