Exploring Life and Business with Ryan DeHart of Pacific Coast Appliance

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan DeHart.

Hi Ryan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I got into the home appliance industry back in October 2010 up in Northern California, when I was hired as a customer service representative for an authorized Sub Zero-Wolf parts distributor. At the time, I didn’t really have an idea in what direction I wanted to head in as far as my career was concerned, so applying for customer service jobs just made sense for me. After working as a CSR for this parts distributor for almost three years, I was given the opportunity to train and become a service technician for Sub Zero-Wolf. At that point, I felt like I found a job that I wanted to make a career out of. I really enjoyed showing up to something that isn’t working correctly, taking it apart and putting it back together and having it operate as it should. With my background in customer service and being a quick learner in the industry, I became one of the top technicians in the company I was working for. In 2017, my wife and I decided to move to San Diego, and I put in for a transfer to the San Diego office. That’s where I met my business partner, Salvatore Wood, who was one of the top technicians down in the SoCal office.

After working with Sal for almost two years, he approached me to see if I’d be interested in starting a home appliance repair company with him. To be honest, at the time, it never occurred to me that was a possibility, especially with no proven customer base that was completely ours. However, Sal was confident that with our skills, we’d have no problem building one over weeknight and weekends in our off hours. So in September 2019, we filed for our LLC as Pacific Coast Appliance. By June 1st, 2020, we had acquired two contracts as authorized service providers for one brand and one home warranty company. July 2020, we were both so busy with Pacific Coast Appliance that we had to quit our jobs and go full-time on our own. Now, a year later, we have over 250 5 star reviews on Google and five contracts with different brands and home warranties. Sal and I are very pleased with what we’ve been able to accomplish so far. However, we are even more excited to continue to work hard to expand and grow Pacific Coast Appliance into the best home appliance repair company in all of San Diego County.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
For the most part, the process has been pretty smooth. The toughest part was trying to be every part of the company when it wad just my business partner and I. We had to do the phones, the scheduling, filing the claims and keep track of parts inventory, all while trying to run the service calls as well. Once we could finally afford it, we brought on our office manager, Ashley. Ashley has absolutely made our lives easier, and now we can spend more time out in the field growing our business.

Pacific Coast Appliance offers everyone the best home appliance repair company in San Diego at one of the most affordable rates out there. Our expertise is in all home appliances, however we do specialize in sealed system repair and appliances on boats/marina. We are known for being transparent, efficient and trustworthy with our customers. When we first started our company, I thought it would take a while to develop a strong customer base in a county as big as San Diego. However, word spread like wildfire and I’m so proud of the reviews we’ve received from our customers on Google. Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory was learning to play team sports, mostly basketball. I’ve always loved being part of a team and having comradery with a group that has the same goals. It’s one of the reasons I like having a business partner and a small family-owned business.
