Hidden Gems: Meet Alisha Beed of Glamping Granola

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alisha Beed.

Hi Alisha, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hi! I’m Alisha, the founder and granola chef of Glamping Granola. After spending years managing a Chinese tea and herb store and subsequently a juice bar, I fell in love with the benefits I saw firsthand of incorporating natural foods and nature grown “vitamins” stemming from plants. I also learned a lot of the best things for you did not necessarily taste the best. I tried pushing friends and family to drink and eat some of the items I was passionate about, but getting someone to try something new and not having it taste good is a hard sell. I knew everyone could benefit from the things they ran away from due to taste but eventually, I just accepted everyone has an independent health journey.

Fast forward to April of 2020 and all of a sudden, I had more time than I could imagine with no activities, social hours, or time spent driving anywhere. I also ate out significantly less and was getting grocery delivery. A big difference between eating out vs. eating at home is that all of the ingredient labels are on full display instead of hidden in seemingly healthy terms such as “granola” on a menu. I started making my own renditions of comfort foods with a healthy twist, and after my first batch of The Original Glamping Granola, I couldn’t go a day without it. I always had a container at my house but it wasn’t until my junk food-loving, meat and potato eating friends became hooked on my granola that I realized how significant it was that the granola was packed with vitamins, minerals, healthy fats, and no refined sugar – but also a fan favorite.

As a result of positive feedback from a sample group, I decided to dive in and start the business. The name Glamping Granola came from the art of “Glamping,” glamorous camping. Traditional glamping setups allow the adventurer to enjoy the beauty and benefits of exploring nature but with a more comfortable and plush stay. I thought this suited the mission perfectly because of our approachable take on a natural food product. Packaging decisions came next and I knew Glamping Granola did not want to contribute to the global plastic issue so an eco-friendly packaging company was sourced. Since the very first bag of our granola that was sold, we have used 100% compostable bags and labels and plan on continuing that aspect of the brand.

Since the inception of Glamping Granola, we have expanded our flavor offerings, all of which contain unique superfoods without compromising on taste. Our granolas are easily incorporated into any lifestyle to add a nutrient-dense superfood snack to give your body a vacation from processed foods.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey from documenting the first recipe in my East Village studio to moving into a commercial kitchen has definitely had its challenges. Navigating entering the food space is not the easiest with the amount of regulations and licenses, and bootstrapping that adventure can be daunting. A major aspect of sustaining and growing the business has been maintaining a positive mindset when it seems the odds are stacked against the company. Focusing on the small victories propels us onward and upward from whatever battle we are facing.

As you know, we’re big fans of Glamping Granola. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Glamping Granola is a super delicious superfood granola. We specialize in clean ingredient granolas without compromising taste, all of which are gluten free and vegan. Our granolas are packaged in a 100% compostable bag with 100% compostable label, unlike the majority of other food items. As a brand, we are proud of our ingredient lists that contain zero weird additives, inflammatory oils, or refined sugar.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
