Hidden Gems: Meet Brandon Bolic of International Delivery Captains

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Bolic.

Hi Brandon, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Back in 2013, I was working in the IT industry and felt it was too corporate. I had been living on my boat and sailing it on weekends for the previous three years. A neighbor down the dock offered me an opportunity to sail on an 83′ top sailed schooner called Amazing Grace. There I met my friend Anthony who encouraged me to get my Captain’s License. After a few more years of sailing, I had the sea time required to apply with the United States Coast Guard. Off to The Maritime Institute I went to complete training and testing. I was the only person in my class who took and passed all of the exams offered. I got a 50 Ton License in 2016 which included Sailing and Assistance Towing Endorsements. Today I work as a charter Captain, a marine mechanic, a sailing instructor, and a yacht delivery Captain.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s hard to get started in this industry. Fortunately, I had many people helping me out along the way. The biggest challenge was finding enough work. Now I have more demand than I can meet but it took a long time to get here.

As you know, we’re big fans of International Delivery Captains. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We offer yacht delivery, professional crew services, lessons, and instruction as well as yacht management. Our sister company Finest City Marine offers licensed and insured marine repair on yachts up to $1,000,000 in value. What sets us apart from others is our local knowledge and our customer service. We take pride in our work and it shows.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
I really enjoy spending time out on the water. There are always some challenges in any career but it’s worth it for the rewards. San Diego has one of the most beautiful bays on the entire Western seaboard and that is my “Office”.
