Hidden Gems: Meet Brielle Eaton of 11th Hour Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brielle Eaton.

Hi Brielle, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m founder and creative director of 11th Hour Studio, a design studio based here in San Diego specializing in Shopify design and development and brand strategy and design. I started 11th Hour Studio the summer after I graduated from San Diego State (go Aztecs!) in 2019.

Growing up, I loved learning new things and pushing myself outside of my comfort zone. I was a very creative kid who loved to draw, paint, craft, etc. and around the time I was in middle school, I got more into fashion and sewing. I was a part of this program called the Arts Academy the last two years of high school that catered to students who wanted to pursue careers in a creative/artistic field, and I was actually planning on attending FIDM in LA to study merchandise product development because it was a dream of mine to work in the fashion industry. I ended up going to San Diego State and pursued a degree in Business Marketing (with a minor in Entrepreneurship).

Throughout college, I was really interested in the concept of starting my own “side hustle” and tried several things out, but nothing was really sticking. I designed and coded my own WordPress blog, thinking I wanted to start blogging about fashion and lifestyle (didn’t work out at the time but something I’m still interested in); I started an inspirational Instagram with motivational quotes and actually sold an e-book I made (my first online sale!); I even built my own Shopify website and tried drop-shipping when that first became a thing. I’ve always been curious and a bit of a risk-taker, so I knew that at some point in life I would be running my own business.

As college graduation loomed near, I was searching for and applying to a few Marketing jobs here and there but my heart wasn’t in it. I was having a lot of heart-to-hearts with my mom and she told me that if I wanted to do my own thing, I should go for it. I didn’t even know exactly what I wanted to do at this point, but I’ve always been a creative and had an eye for design and aesthetics, so with my marketing background I decided the culmination of these skills would be starting a (virtual) design studio. I started out designing brand identities and WordPress sites and that quickly shifted into Shopify design and development and brand development.

11th Hour Studio now offers Shopify design and development, website design on Webflow and Showit, Brand Strategy and Design, and social media services. We are also evolving into more of an educator role for fellow designers who are wanting to learn more about working in the Shopify platform.

I love what I do and it’s so rewarding to work with other small business owners and bring their dreams to life. I even get a taste of the fashion world through working with fashion brands on their brand identities and digital experiences, so that’s the icing on top of the cake!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have been a lot of good days and there have been a lot of not-so-good days, but that’s just entrepreneurship (and life). I think as a business owner, it’s really important to have a good support system, give yourself grace, and have a rock solid vision and purpose behind why you’re doing what you’re doing. Honestly, starting a business has been one heck of a personal / self-development journey. You get to know yourself really well; when you work best, what motivates and inspires you, following your gut/intuition, your strengths/weaknesses, setting boundaries, etc.

I’ve learned to stop looking externally for the answers and instead run my business the way it works best for me. It’s so easy to compare your journey to other entrepreneurs and try to emulate their success, but everyone is different and that’s your superpower. I’ve also learned as a business owner and especially as a creative, to make time and space for myself to reset and refresh my mind and soul so I can continue to be inspired and love what I do.

There are challenges at every level and every next step in growing a business, but that’s the fun, isn’t it?

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about 11th Hour Studio?
I’m a brand strategist, designer, and web developer and I specialize in branding and Shopify websites for e-commerce brands in the fashion, beauty, and wellness industries. I think what sets me and my studio apart from other agencies and design studios is my background and approach to design and the relationships I build with my clients. My design process is very collaborative and I treat every project as if it were my own. I want the experience of working with me to be easy, fun, and as stress-free as possible because I know how overwhelming running a business and all facets of business can be. I’m really proud of the projects and design work I’ve done thus far and how much my business has grown over the past two years — and I can’t wait to see how it will progress over the next two years!
