Hidden Gems: Meet Chelsey Evans of Chelsey Explores

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsey Evans.

Hi Chelsey, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I run a travel blog and social media account called Chelsey Explores. I originally began my journey as a travel blogger back in 2018 when I was living up in San Francisco and working as an ER nurse. I would scrapbook on paper about all my travels but would repeatedly get asked for me to send my trips and itineraries to others. This is when I transitioned my scrapbooking to an online blog. It started out and simple articles and has now turned into full on itineraries. In 2019, I moved back to my hometown of San Diego and began to focus on all the fun and adventurous things to do in San Diego, CA. Currently, I post a ton of information of outdoor activities to do in San Diego over on my website www.chelseyexplores.com and on my social media accounts which can be found @chelseyexplores. I am actually currently on a three months adventure around Europe but will be back to posting regular SoCal content when I return.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. There has been a lot of self-teaching along the way. My previous job was an ER nurse, so I essentially knew nothing about the social media, blogging, marketing world. I took it upon myself to take classes and learn as much as I could. I definitely failed along the way but continued to push through and learn.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I currently run a travel blog that is called Chelsey Explores. It focuses on inspiring others, women specifically, to get outside and adventure more. On my website, I discuss and share all my hiking tips and tricks. From hiking easy trails to backpacking longer trails, I go over it all. I also provide recommendations on my most used and loved outdoor gear. Along with inspiring others to get outdoors, I love to share my favorite things to do in and around the San Diego area. Again, I focus my San Diego tips on outdoor and adventurous things to do. Honestly, I am just most proud of how far I have come in my growth as both a company and personally. I have learned so much along the way and it feels like a whole new career compared to nursing. Occasionally, I host women’s hiking meetups in San Diego. I will tend to post those on my TikTok. IG stories or through my email newsletter. So, if you are a female and follow along, I would love for you to join in on one of my hikes. Lastly, I do host bigger group trips for both genders. I recently took a group to Yosemite and I am hosting a trip to Alaska in 2022. If you are interested please reach out!

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was a very quiet and shy kid who loved to adventure outdoors. Even as a young kid though, I loved taking photos and creating video content. It was something I would do in my free time if I wasn’t out on a hike or swimming in the ocean.
