Hidden Gems: Meet Jackie Hoover of Jax Gymnastics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jackie Hoover. Them and their team share their story with us below:

The idea of Jax Gymnastics began years ago when Jackie was still a competitive gymnast but the vision and reality finally came true in 2020. Teaching runs thick in Jackie’s blood. Both her parents are professors and at a young age, she knew teaching was what she was meant to do. She was a competitive USAG Level 9 gymnast, a Jr. Olympic All American, a collegiate track & field athlete, and has managed multiple gymnastics locations and coached collegiate athletes at schools such as Clemson and Harvard University. Some of those athletes have gone on to compete in the Olympics and others have become coaches themselves. She loves hearing stories from former athletes and toddlers.

The motivation to open Jax came from pure passion and the need Jackie saw in the community. Being vulnerable and going after your dreams is the name of the game. When it comes down to it, Jax is about YOU. Jax is about family. It is about teaching kids the fundamentals of movement and motivating them to take risks. It is about learning life lessons from falling and getting back up. It is about being kind and giving back. It is about treating others with respect and celebrating differences. Jax is about cartwheels and confidence!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not necessarily been a “smooth” road but that would be boring now wouldn’t it?

Jax Gymnastics On-the-Go started during quarantine with the idea of finding an actual location when the time was right. We finally secured a small studio this summer but we sure LOVE our outdoor mobile program. Having both is the perfect blend but yes, we have had challenges. Yes, we have gotten drenched in the rain. Yes, there were a handful of days in the winter when we had to bundle up to stay warm but we will continue with Jax On-the-Go because it is San Diego after all!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?

EMOTIONAL WELL BEING: We recognize the potential, creativity and growth in every child. We build happy and healthy kids by fostering self-esteem, developing character and maximizing their talents.

COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP: We are dedicated to meeting the needs of our communities through programs and outside the box thinking. We partner with daycare centers, pre-schools, home-school families and businesses.

MANTRA: Learning is fun. I have courage. My body is strong.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Back in March of 2020, we were in lease negotiations on a 4k square foot spot. The universe was looking out for us and we didn’t sign it. We were lucky. I know many small business and large businesses that have really struggled this past year. I am lucky and very thankful for the amazing families and wonderful support I’ve received this past year.

Lastly, Jax was “born” from the support of my parents both financially and emotionally. You don’t pick your parents. I lucked out getting them and I will forever be thankful!
