Today we’d like to introduce you to Gina Onativia.
Hi Gina, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My defining moment came when I was seven months pregnant with my son, Tristan. I told my best friend that I didn’t want to miss one minute of my son’s life because I had to “stay late at the office” at my corporate role.
“Then don’t go back,” she said to me.
Come again? I am a corporate gal. In it for life.
“Don’t go back,” she repeated. “Online courses are the future. You’re great at building them. Create a business around that.”
We had both learned the ins and outs of online courses during our time working for peak performance coach Tony Robbins. I nodded my head, scared and excited for the future. That was 7+ years ago. After a ton of soul searching, months after that convo, I decided to start my own business and team up with my art director hubby to offer online course creation and content marketing for experts, speakers, and entrepreneurs.
It’s been a wild ride since then—I’ve created online courses for Giuliana Rancic and Jason Kennedy, former NFL standout Bo Eason, and American Council on Exercise, and more. Today I also coach new course creators on how to get their courses done and launched with my own programs. And I have the freedom and flexibility to play with Tristan, to go for impromptu walks with my husband, to take off on a Friday afternoon to grab pastelitos from Azucar in OB.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I first started my business, I had zero boundaries with my time or the clients I took. Big mistake. BIG. I worked ridiculous hours. I set no limits for working from home. And took every job in fear they would go away.
“Staying late at the office” became “working late at my home desk.”
Instead of missing Tristan’s first soccer rollback because I was stuck in traffic on the 805, I missed it because I was editing someone else’s scripts that I just couldn’t say no to. Then after finding myself in tears at 1 a.m. because of a gigantic online course that would never seem to be finished, I decided that was enough. That’s when I decided that I would build my own programs and build a different kind of business instead of just taking on every client I could. I hired a business coach and took back control of my business. And hell, I still lapse on the boundary thing. It’s not a perfect ending. It’s a work in progress. But every day, I wake up excited for what’s to come. I love what I do, and grateful I get to help my clients and students.

I help online entrepreneurs cut through the confusion and overwhelm to find a simplified blueprint to get their expertise out to the world. To me, course creation is not one size fits all; you need to figure out your own path to creating and marketing your online course. I help you discover the path that’s right for you and your students.
From training emerging real estate agents on how to get their first sale to teaching donkey farriers how to properly trim donkey hooves, I’ve seen the incredible impact my students and clients have had on the world. That makes me proud.
