Inspiring Conversations with Gordon Chavez of Innergy Financial

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gordon Chavez.

Hi Gordon, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My background is graphic design, web design, advertising, and marketing. I worked in the industry for about 10-15 years. A friend and I partnered and opened a shop together in north county. Then, shortly after the real estate crisis of 2008, we decided to shut the business down. That experience hurt my heart because I really loved that work.

I continued to do freelance design work after, but I wasn’t able to take it to where I originally wanted it to go. I then decided that I would start to educate myself about how money works to be able to provide a better life and future for my family. In that process, I started working with my financial advisor on goal setting. As we became friends, I found out that his company was growing and was looking for representation in north county. Based on my character and integrity, he asked if I was interested in partnering with him. I was definitely intimidated by that idea with my limited knowledge and lack of experience. He assured me that he would teach me everything I needed to know. He was more interested in building a culture of integrity and leadership. I’ve been working with him since 2015 and love being able to make a positive impact on the lives of families. I grew up in Oceanside and am proud to be able to serve my community.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Not at all! Every time I’ve decided to set big goals, the challenges have tested me to what I thought, at the time, was my limit. The challenges have been financial, personal, marital, etc. Financially, my homeownership was put to the test. Personally, I was tested emotionally and mentally. There were times that I wanted to give up. All these challenges also tested my marriage. Luckily, I have an amazing wife. We would not be where or who we are without our commitment to each other.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Innergy Financial?
At Innergy Financial, we focus on helping people improve their identity, emotional intelligence, and their overall relationship with money. We believe that the way you think and feel about money reflects in the lifestyle that you manifest for yourself. We want to build relationships to be able to get to know our clients in the hopes of empowering them but also customize a strategy to help them reach their goals.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
The pandemic has helped me better understand the importance of knowing myself. Knowledge of self allows us to see when a challenge is a serious challenge that needs to be addressed properly or our emotions making it seem like more than it really is. Either way, challenges are temporary as long as we don’t give up.
