Inspiring Conversations with Jaime T. of Hypegirl Healing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaime T.

Hi Jaime, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I became interested in a holistic wellness journey in early 2010. I was introduced to herbal medicine in 2012 when I was working in an acupuncturist’s office and soon became an herbalist in 2013.

I dabbled in all sorts of healthy habits to further my health and wellness, and in 2015, I decided it was time to move from my hometown of Boston out here to beautiful San Diego, to begin working on my soul that was feeling empty.

I sold everything I owned, packed up two suitcases, bought a one-way ticket to San Diego, rented a week-long Airbnb, without a home or a job secured, and stepped way outside of my comfort zone to begin building a life that made me truly happy.

One year after moving here, I decided it was time to do another Whole30. I had done more Whole30’s than I care to count, in an effort to reel in the poor eating and drinking habits that always consumed my life.

Instead of doing a Whole30, I decided it was time to commit to 90 days of clean eating and no drinking.
And on January 1, 2017, I made the choice to not pick up alcohol for the next 90 days…and here I am, 4.5 years later, with my own small business helping people discover a holistic approach to wellness through sobriety.

My life has been completely transformed from the removal of one substance: alcohol.

It was NEVER my intention to get sober. It was always to take a break and give my body a much-needed New Year’s cleanse from the poor eating and drinking choices I had made when I moved here to San Diego.

It was on day 75-day 80 that something clicked in my head that said “I don’t think I want to go back to drinking” because when I looked around, EVERY part of my life, mind, body, and soul, were beginning to heal and I was the healthiest, happiest, and most fulfilled version of myself I had ever been in my entire life at the age of 36.

Soon after I quit drinking, my mission and purpose to help people in some sort of capacity became very clear, and in 2019, Hypegirl Healing was born.

My mission is to make sobriety cool, to hype people up for the healing and wellness journey ahead, and to let people know there is someone out there who understands the struggles of drinking and gives people another option to get sober that is fun, sexy, vibrant, and most of all, inclusive and supportive.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Just like quitting drinking, starting your own business can definitely be a lonely road. Before I discovered my online business community, I battled severe imposter syndrome, thoughts about not being good enough, and severe overwhelm and fear with every new decision I was faced with. I had no one to bounce questions off of, and spent hours upon hours researching things like sales tax, landing pages, copywriting, funnels, analytics, ad campaigns, etc.

The first year of Hypegirl Healing was for sure was one of the toughest and biggest struggles of my life, and never mind it was all during a global PANDEMIC.

I think any type of major change, whether it be moving clear across the country without a job or a home, getting sober, or starting your own business, brings inevitable bumps in the road or struggles along the way. I ran out of money before I found my first job here in San Diego. I was sleeping on a blanket on the floor before I could afford a bed to sleep in. I battled the inner voices that wanted me to fail so badly every time I chose to speak and teach about becoming alcohol-free.

Those challenges prepare you for the difficult road ahead because if it was easy, everyone would be doing it. By being brave enough to not quit and to navigate those bumps in the road, succeeding at effectively adapting and overcoming those bumps, makes you that much stronger and wiser.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
The best thing about San Diego is the weather. I am an East Coaster and I could not stand the constant grey weather and humid summers. Here in San Diego, the winters are my most favorite time of year, and I love that I can be outside all year long!

My least favorite thing about San Diego is the dry conditions that flare up during the summer. That single-digit humidity, strong dusty winds, and super hot temps don’t jive with this girl at all!
