Inspiring Conversations with Leonardo Torres of Electrictechrepair

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leonardo Torres.

Hi Leonardo, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Hi there! My name is Leonardo, but everyone calls me Cristian.

I’ve been in the tech repair industry for over 3 years and got started by building a gaming computer and repairing my electronics. When I was in high school, I applied to work at a local tech repair shop that was known for quality repairs, and to my surprise, I got the gig! I was taught everything about repairing any and every electronic device plus everything I needed to know about the industry. I gained 2 years of valuable experience repairing every smartphone, every tablet, every gaming console, and every laptop available; I even learned how to solder! However, things changed and the store wasn’t the same as it used to be so I decided to leave. I still loved the satisfaction of fixing technology and making people’s day so I decided I wasn’t going to work at a repair shop anymore and was going to start my own company to do things the way I think they should be done: at a reasonable price and with great customer service.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a bit of a slow start, but business has its ups and downs. At first, I didn’t know how to get the word out so I just decided to tell everyone I know which included friends, family, and coworkers. Unfortunately, that didn’t bring in a lot of business so I knew I had to come up with a better plan. I created an Instagram account and used a website to create business cards that I could pass around to people and have them follow my account (@electrictechrepair). That gave my company more attraction and a place where people can find me, but still not a lot of business. From there I decided to try Instagram’s ad service where I can pay to have one of my posts appear as an ad on Instagram’s platform. This has gained me the most attraction and some business, so I can say it was successful, but the ad was only out for a short period of time. I am planning on creating another ad on Instagram, but I would also like to use other ad services like Google or Facebook.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I own an electronics repair company called Electrictechrepair (ETR) which specializes in fixing phones, tablets, laptops, desktops, and gaming consoles with the clear goal in mind of always providing quality, low-cost service with speed! I’m based in North County San Diego and offer mobile repairs to anyone in the area which includes: San Marcos, Vista, Escondido, Valley Center, Fallbrook, Bonsall, Oceanside, Carlsbad, and Encinitas. Most people think broken devices are unrepairable and decide to buy new ones, but the truth is a lot of issues CAN be fixed which will save you a lot of money. My company has only been around for a few months, but I appreciate SD Voyager for shining a spotlight on me and sharing my story! I’m looking forward to building a loyal customer base so I can create strong connections and, of course, provide quality, low-cost repairs.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I’d say the most important quality for my success in regards to business is being a great salesman, but in regards to repairs, it is crucial to be detail orientated. Being detail-oriented might be even more important, if not equally important than being a great salesman because the work shows for itself. If you are a great barber, a great craftsman, or as in my case, a great technician then it’s simple; customers know what great work looks like and if you produce it then more people want your work. You have to be detail-oriented when repairing electronics to ensure that the device works post-repair and it looks like you didn’t even do anything. Basically, making the device look brand new again and I can ensure this is the standard of quality to which I do my repairs.
