Inspiring Conversations with Paria Vaziri

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Paria Vaziri.

Hi Dr. Vaziri, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always loved learning about the human body and all that it entails. When I was in undergrad at Virginia Tech, I studied Biology where I fell in love with organic chemistry which drove me to pursue a pre-pharmacy route. When I graduated, I took a gap year during which time I worked at a pharmacy as a pharmacy technician, prepared and took the PCAT, and submitted multiple applications to pharmacy school.

However, during this time, I was deeply struggling with my own health. I had debilitating anxiety and panic disorder, my gut health was a complete mess, and my cycles were derailed after coming off of hormonal birth control. I felt so frustrated with all the lack of answers I was getting from my doctors, how every drug I was given felt like a bandaid solution and not looking at the root of what was going on, and I was growing so unhappy working in the pharmacy.

That’s when I started to open up my mind to other ways of healing and I found naturopathic medicine. Through what I was able to learn online and the health changes that I made, I felt infinitely better than I ever had going through the conventional medicine world. There’s a time and place for both types of medicine, and for me, I found the most healing through natural medicine.

That’s when I really decided to change the trajectory of my life and career and I decided to apply and attend Bastyr University for Naturopathic Medicine. Fast forward to today, I get to do what I love by practicing root cause natural healing. I currently own a practice where I offer both virtual appointments and in-person appointments on Tuesdays at Trilogy Sanctuary in La Jolla. Alongside my practice, I’m the Chief Medical Advisor of a new wellness and supplement brand for young women, Tribeü, founded by Victoria and Cristina Iglesias, and I share health education content on my Instagram @doctor.paria.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Owning your own business is never a smooth road! Starting any business comes with its own unique struggles. My mentor once told me that being an entrepreneur feels like holding up a mirror to yourself and seeing all the weakest parts of you amplified. There have been many days that I’ve doubted my choices, felt crippled by the stress, and have wanted to give up.

But growth never happens from a place of comfort, it comes from stepping into the deep end of your fears.

I’ve had to teach myself a lot of skills that have always been a struggle to me – better organizational skills, time management, financial literacy, budgeting, building a website, learning how to launch a business…. the list has felt endless.

But through it all, I have learned and grown so much and every struggle has truly taught me to be a better, smarter, and stronger person and I’m forever grateful for the decision that I made. The road is much smoother now than it was months ago, but I know that there are always going to be some bumps along the way and that I’m resilient enough to make it through them!

We’ve been impressed with Doctor Paria Naturopathic Inc., but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m a naturopathic doctor and I specialize in natural hormone balancing, gut healing, building stress resiliency, and overall optimizing wellness.

I think what really sets me apart in this field is that I have first-hand experience in suffering from all these areas of health. I’ve been there myself, I know how frustrating it can be, and I know how rewarding it is to finally feel your health shift and improve. I’m able to empathize with my patients and clients because I’ve been there too and I want people to know that there’s more options out there than just pills that mask the symptoms, that root cause healing is possible.

I’m the most proud of the platform I’ve built on Instagram. I know that there’s so many individuals who don’t even know what naturopathic medicine is or how it can help them, so I’ve always known that I wanted to create a space where I can help educate and inform people for free.

My practice is currently open to new patients so if you’ve read this and you’re interested in working together, I offer a 15-minute complimentary consultation to give us a chance to meet and see if we’d be a good fit!

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I’ve learned the importance of being flexible. I opened my practice in the middle of the pandemic and had to completely change my business model in order to make it work. I was frustrating and scary to turn back on the plans that I envisioned, but being flexible in the face of a crisis proved to be so valuable to my success.

So I’ve taken that lesson with me and I know that it’s important to have backup plans and sometimes even those plans need a backup plan as well!
