Inspiring Conversations with Steve Meyers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steve Meyers.

Hi Steve, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I moved out to San Diego in April of 2014 to pursue a lifestyle change and start a new career in marketing. After being in that role for about two years, I wasn’t finding the whole 9-5 mentality of working for someone else really fit into what I wanted in life. I wanted a career where I could make my own hours and work for as long or as little as I choose. I wanted to be in control of how much money I could make, not my employer.

I quickly began researching other career choices and knew I didn’t want to go back to college to get myself into more debt so I decided to pursue my real estate license! The barrier to entry was pretty low and the cost was relatively cheap, so I decided why not. Fast forward to January of 2017, I passed my real estate exam and officially became a realtor in the state of CA. The first 3-6 months were a struggle, trying to learn everything and find a good brokerage who provided me the support I needed while I grew in my career. I was fortunate enough to find a great team in Porchlight Realty who helped mold and guide me into the agent I am today.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It’s a lot of stuff to learn once you get your real estate license. Contracts, scripts, showings, lockboxes, etc. Also, trying to act like a chameleon in a sense trying to adapt to people’s personalities can be challenging when trying to build rapport with them.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Sure thing, I have an S-Corp called Steve Sells San Diego Corp. It’s the real estate business I created. I specialize in helping people buy and sell real estate here in San Diego for the last three years. One of the things I think that sets me apart from other realtors is that rather than trying to sell a client on a property and the pros of it. I try and focus on what some of the cons may be and look for potential issues with the property. By doing this, it helps my clients build trust in me and know that I’m truly looking out for their well-being when it comes to buying a home.

One of the things I love about real estate is the fact that I get the chance to help advice and help people with arguably the biggest financial decision of their life. I’ve always enjoyed helping others and anything involving investments or finance has always been something I’m passionate about. Real estate has allowed me to combine those two passions. I think of one of the biggest things that separate my service from all the other realtors is that I like to provide my clients with options. Whether it’s buying or selling, there are many different avenues you can go. For buying, do you want to purchase something as primary or do you want something that’s more of an investment like a long-term rental? For selling, I always will guide my clients on the best way to get top dollar for their homes. If the home isn’t in the best condition and they don’t have the funds to fix it up themselves, I can help them determine the best option for selling.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
My genuine desire to help and my communication skills I think, help set me apart.
