Inspiring Conversations with Viktoriia Soloviova of Mandala Touch

Today we’d like to introduce you to Viktoriia Soloviova.

Hi Viktoriia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey started in 2010. I just moved to the US and started selling skincare at kiosks and stores. I noticed that I didn’t recognize most of the ingredients in the products I was selling. This frustrated me because the products were all different prices with all the same mysterious ingredients. I wanted to be certain about what I was putting on my body and was also unhappy about all the plastic waste produced from purchasing these products. In 2018, I finally decided to quit my job and start this business! The goal is to make clean products with no plastic waste! I started small by making batches for my friends and family to try. I then started learning about the chakra system and wanted to implement that into my products since it is something I practice. Once I had my brand set up, I started selling at the Pacific Beach Farmers Market and then expanded to Ocean Beach and Little Italy Farmers Markets as well. Since then, I have launched an online store and Instagram page where I sell around the country.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Fortunately, it has been a pretty smooth road. I made sure to build up a lot of savings before starting so I wouldn’t have unnecessary stress about initial costs. I’ve had some struggles being taken seriously by others as a female entrepreneur. But the main challenge is running this business solo. As many entrepreneurs know, you have to be everything: the production, salesperson, marketing, operations, shipping, sourcing. Fortunately, I have been able to hire an employee to take over some tasks so I can focus on the areas of my business I’m most passionate about.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Mandala Touch bath and body products are all handmade. They are made from all-natural luxurious oils and butters that are deeply hydrating and pure for the skin (no palm oil). All the packaging is compostable or reusable so there is no plastic waste. Specifically, we sell shampoo bars, bar soaps, chakra lotion bars, lip balms, pine tar healing salve (for eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis), as well as pet shampoo and lotion. Our most unique product is our chakra lotion bar. We have seven different lotion bars with all different scents assigned to different chakras. This is a fun way to integrate your chakra practice into something you do every day (putting on lotion). As you put it on, you smell the scent, recite/think of an affirmation or mantra or just use it for aromatherapy & moisturizing. We sell everything at San Diego farmer’s markets as well as online.

What’s next?
My short-term plans are to expand my product line to include bath bombs, candles and hire more employees. My long-term goals are to open a refillery and space to host workshops on how to make your own skincare and reduce plastic waste.
