Inspiring Conversations with Yesenia Nogales of WeLease and SoCal LifeStyle Realty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yesenia Nogales.

Hi Yesenia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Living in SoCal is more than just a place to live, it’s a Lifestyle. Every day I wake up to a beautiful city view from my home and am grateful for our lifestyle. But getting here wasn’t a walk in the park. I was born and raised in Mexico. I am the 5th child of 10! And we did not have much. When I was 18, my mother moved to San Diego with my younger siblings in hopes for a better lifestyle for her children. I was working for the Mexican Government at the time and my mother asked me to come with her for a short visit. But, once I was here she didn’t let me go back to Mexico which I was heartbroken about. I cried for almost two years. I had to start again from nothing. I didn’t speak a word of English and San Diego seemed such a big city at that time for me but I was determined to learn the language and live the American way.

My first job was waitressing and from there, I moved on to owning my own restaurant. My experience in the restaurant industry allowed me to understand the value of customer service. My customers cared how I made them feel and it was important to me they truly felt cared for -that is how we operate my Real Estate and my Property Management business today.

My career path changed when my daughter was two years old, she is my “Why” in my life. I decided to create opportunities for her for a better lifestyle, much like my mother did for me by moving us to San Diego. Today my daughter is a senior at San Diego State University which I am very proud of. My passion for living the SoCal lifestyle, homes, family, and helping others led me to Real Estate and investing.

Looking back at my journey, I have learned: 1) Customer Service is king -how you make someone feel is everything! 2) Effective Communication is vital. 3) Work Hard and Smart. Working those long hours in the restaurant industry was not fun but it taught me the value of hard work and having a good work ethic. My husband and real estate partner, Billy, met through a real estate transaction as agents representing opposite sides. We have two kids that we are raising together, Evan and Ariana. I’m a business owner who really cares for our clients and our team. I don’t want my clients to be just a transaction. I want to have a long-term relationship with my clients and my team members. Working with WeLease and SoCal Lifestyle Realty is more than a choice, it’s part of my lifestyle.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it has not been a smooth road. I never had a support system in my life. I started working when I was 12 years old. I had to overcome the language barrier here in the U.S and the lack of a four-year college degree. I have always had an entrepreneur mindset but, the lack of resources for Hispanic women is something I had to overcome. Every business I started with no capital or very little capital. I grew my business with sweat, tears and sacrifices along the way. But, I don’t regret anything. I learn along the way how to make things happen. I am in a very good position right now and the risk I have taken is paying off. But I am not done. I keep working on my goals so I can leave a legacy for the new generations.
