Today we’d like to introduce you to Yinka Freeman.
Hi Yinka, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born in Sierra Leone and grew up between several African countries and America. As an adult, I bounced around some different cities, Chicago, Miami and ended up in San Diego. I’ve worked in the hospitality and events industry for over 15 years and have worked in almost every possible position, which got me where I am today, as an owner of a full service event planning company based right here in San Diego.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh goodness no! There have been some bumps along the road, all of which have been necessary to get me here today. One of the worst and best struggles has been building an events business during the pandemic, where events were one of the first things to get canceled. Having to survive and thrive during a global crisis has challenged me in ways I never imagined. It’s tested my confidence, strength, experience, knowledge and most of all my passion for the industry.
As you know, we’re big fans of Triple Pocket Events. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Triple Pocket is a full-service event planning company that specializes in virtual, private and corporate events. I take care of every aspect of a client’s event, from concept to completion. From generating a theme, selecting your venue, food and beverage, staffing, rentals, AV, transportation and any other event specific needs. Events I plan range from conferences, holiday celebrations, galas, private dinners and so much more. I not only plan in-person events all throughout San Diego and around the country, I also plan virtual events, ranging from happy hours, multi-day summits or virtual birthday celebrations.
Throughout my career, I’ve been lucky to work for various types of hospitality and events companies in various roles and I’ve brought all that knowledge with me and that is what makes Triple Pocket such a well rounded company. I pride myself on working with all sorts of clients, from non-profits, to LGBTQ+ organizations to big corporations, for me it’s all about my clients and their vision. I based every event I do on the notion of ROI, but for Triple Pocket that means Return on Intention. Creating events that have a purpose behind it what Triple Pocket does best, whether that’s a charity event or your Dad’s birthday party.
