Life and Work with Alex a.k.a. Candi Macias

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex a.k.a. Candi Macias.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I dedicated half of my life to a career that helped me gain all the experience I now have to run my business. I worked in the Medical Field as an Administrator/Manager and what started as extra income has now become my full-time job. Never in my mind did I ever think I would be able to support myself being a housekeeper.

I left my 20-year career in 2009, & had a few other experiences from Construction to Property Manager, not understanding the path that was being laid out for where I am now.

Back in 2014, I became homeless, moved out of my house and gave away all of my belongings, my son then 16, went to live full time with his father until I could get back on my feet. In the beginning, I felt guilty having taken care of him for most of his younger life, but the support of his father who is one of my best friends has always been a positive one. I couldn’t afford to eat at times, but I was lucky I had a truck, I converted that into my mobile home and roughed it out for 2 years. I started attending Souleil Sundays on a regular basis and danced until the night rolled in. I made friends there that have now become my family.

In 2016, I was able to gain enough clients to finally find a place to live. It was perfect for me and my Pup Oscar. Ever since then life has been nothing but challenging and growth. I am a housekeeper and I enjoy every part of it. I see it more than cleaning but more as something I can do for someone else. We are all
so busy with our lives that knowing my clients can get home and enjoy a clean home with good energy makes me love my job even more. I am also a Personal Trainer, I have been training people for about two years and I absolutely love it. In 2017 as I sat and had a deep conversation with my now best friend Mikey, he asked if I wanted more for myself? That is when he began to talk to me about getting a degree. I never went to college, I was lucky to have long-term jobs that gave me experience. So, that same year, I enrolled in Grossmont College and now on the path to getting my AA as a Registered Dietician and a Nutritionist. I am now on my second year this fall. Although it’s been a struggle the process is priceless. I made the Dean’s list & now another challenge to continue and remain until I graduate.

The support of the people that surround me is more than I could ever have imagined and that helps to keep going and not stop. My son who is now 21 also attends the same college. This coming Fall, he is taking a Fitness class with me. I cannot wait for this. My son Cristian has been the highlight of my life, one of the reasons why I don’t give up and keep going. I have been running my housekeeping business for 6 years now, a Personal Trainer for 2 years & a Promoter and Partner for Souleil San Diego, a House Music label. I could not ask for more in life than what it has granted me. With sweat, tears, happiness, ups, and downs but I am here and I’m not about to stop anytime soon…

Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t been smooth, but with dedication and understanding that life isn’t easy, we can create a domino effect not only for ourselves but others. I mean, if life was meant to be easy then where would the growth be? We have to go through all of it to get to where we are today. The pain, the go is and the bad. The only person that can do more is me and surrounding ourselves with like-minded people that push us helps. A friend of mine told me to “keep your eye on the prize” and that is exactly what I tell myself every time I feel I can’t! I can and I will!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Candi’s House Services, Level Up Personal straining, Souleil San Diego – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a full-time housekeeper. I help keep people stay organized and have a fresh home on a daily basis. We all feel better in a clean home, don’t we? What stands me apart from other cleaning services is that I have no limitations. I cater to my clients and will help with anything they may need to keep their home organized. A home is the most personal space anyone can share and I am trusted enough to come into that space and cleanse it. It is truly an honor to be so trusted by humans and the best part is these clients have become my friends and some even family. All my clients have been from word of mouth and referrals. I am a lucky girl but I am here because I hustle. My other business as a Personal Trainer is still growing and I can’t wait to see what life has in store for me in the next years.

Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well positioned for?
I feel women have every opportunity to do and become anything we want as long as we put our heart and soul into it. This applies to everyone, but being a single mother, and now in my late 40’s, life is just beginning. I was a single parent, I have been homeless and it hasn’t been easy. However, with envisioned goals and opportunities that life has put infeont of me, I know that anything is possible. Never stop believing in yourself! That is the goal to a successful life.
