Life and Work with Allison Kelley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Kelley.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Allison. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I went to school for Business and Marketing, shortly after I graduated college I began to pursue a career in Marketing in San Diego. I began working for a local San Diego business where I now work as the Marketing Director. Marketing has always been a passion of mind because it is business oriented and requires creativity. Through my experience working full-time, I found myself looking for a creative outlet. I wanted a platform I could call my own, something that would inspire me and others. This is why I created butwhatshouldiwear.com a life, style, and travel blog based in Southern California.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Blogging has never been a smooth road. I have faced a lot of obstacles along the way and still do today. The beautiful thing about blogging and working in social media influencing is that it is such a new industry that you really get to make the rules up as you go.

However, this also posed a challenge because it meant thinking outside of the box and going down a road not many people understand. If I had any advice for young women it would be to just start. Don’t wait until things are perfect, that won’t happen. You won’t start growing and learning until you start so just go!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with But What Should I Wear – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I specialize in content creation and social media promotion as a blogger and influencer! I strive to keep my content unique and high-quality while keeping an engaged and authentic audience! I like to be myself when sharing my life with others, social media can be a place where people only share their highlight reels, I like to share every aspect of my life with others.

Do you think there are structural or other barriers impeding the emergence of more female leaders?
I feel like women can be their own biggest barriers, we let society tell us what we are and are not capable of, which is not true. I know for a fact women are capable of anything they put their mind to, we just have to push past the self-doubt and persevere! Once we put our mind to something and get started we can do anything.
