Life and Work with Amaris Rivera

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amaris Rivera.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Crystals and the Earth’s processes are two of my greatest interests. This first manifested at the age of two, when I began collecting rocks from the backyard of my childhood home. My parents quickly caught on to my unique hobby and encouraged my growing interest in rocks, crystals, and minerals. Initially, I thought crystals were simply beautiful and for some reason, I just enjoyed having them around me. As I got older, however, I developed a fascination for natural disasters and the ways in which the earth functions. Naturally, I began studying how crystals are formed to better understand the incredible stories behind the crystals in my collection.

In addition to being drawn to earth science, I was always extremely intuitive and creative – more importantly, I carried a passion for helping and loving other people. When I went to college at UC Berkeley, I attended with the intention of becoming a Plastic/Reconstructive surgeon, so I could help people who had been disfigured or injured in accidents. When I realized I didn’t want to go that route, I began studying Political Science to be a lawyer. I thought that this path would present me with the opportunity to bring more justice to a corrupt system. It was here that I also began studying Buddhism and establishing my spiritual beliefs about the mind, body, spirit, and universe. Then, suddenly, I fell extremely ill with a mysterious sickness that doctors could not pinpoint (I was eventually diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease, then Psoriatic Arthritis). I was on the brink of death, being prescribed horrible medications, and slowly slipping away. Of course, I took a leave of absence from college and reunited with my spirituality, and my crystal collection in the process of healing myself.

In that time, I began writing on Instagram about my experiences with near-death, chronic illness, depression, and how I helped myself through it all. My intention was to tell my story, so others who related could find peace in knowing there is someone else out there in the world who understands how they feel. I began meditating and working with my crystals, and sound healing tools, for my personal healing journey. I was so powerfully transformed by their supportive energy that I knew I needed to share their magic with others — And thus, Amarisland (the shop) was born. It has always been far more than just a shop, though.

Amarisland is the Land of Love and Magic – the place in which my visions, crystals, and love reside. It is where anything is possible. I initially created this peaceful place in my mind where anyone could come to discover their joy, light, and inner child. In Amarisland, everyone is free to be their truest form. Amarisland extends far beyond crystals and reaches into the importance of energy. It reminds us of our personal power and resilience. Essentially, it is the awakening of our inner magic – all the tools are complementary to the foundation. Furthermore, it is crucial for me to share HOW to utilize these tools and address the importance of intentional action in ALL realms of life when healing.

Amarisland has been the greatest source of my own healing and guided me down the path of my true purpose. Now, it is a powerful outlet for sharing my experiences, thoughts, visions, music, and handmade art, as well as for helping people on their personal journeys through this life. Soon, Amarisland will be a real place, as I just purchased land to open a healing and retreat center, for face to face connection. Equally as exciting is my newest project called ‘Heal Mobile’, in which I am converting a cargo van into a mobile healing space to bring healing, workshops, and events directly into communities. I am also working on a sound healing album for release in 2020.

Amarisland is my full-time work and is continuously evolving. I put incredible amounts of time and effort into making it what it is today, and bringing my ideas to life; however, what I KNOW is the most important ingredient in the recipe of what I do, is LOVE. Love is what keeps me going when things get tough. It is the source of my passion for seeing others thrive and grow beyond that dark place they thought they were stuck in. I come from this place of love because I know what it is like to be at your lowest point, wondering if you will ever make it out alive — I did make it out alive and now I thrive. Because I did it, I want other people to know they can, too.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to where I currently stand was not linear, by any means. Life is meant to carry twists and turns, ebbs and flows – this is especially true when you step out of your comfort zone to follow your truth and stand in your purpose.

When I first started my business, I had no idea what to expect. To be honest, I thought I would share my work to Instagram and it would immediately be seen by everyone – that was so far from the truth. I put my heart into my work and creations, yet very little people even knew I existed. I worked day in and day out, and some days I cried from the depths of my soul. I said to myself, “Maybe I am not cut out for this”, but I had a rad support system and an intense drive to succeed – both kept me from making the mistake of quitting. Instead, I put my head down and continued to do everything it took to make my passion a reality.

Finding my place in the online artist community was also a bit of a struggle. I connected easily with others, but I always did things a bit different than what was prevalent in my realm of work at the time. My content has always been emotionally, environmentally, and texturally driven, evoking exploration of thought and feeling. I was just getting started and questioning my vision because it wasn’t yet what was getting attention on IG – should I do what I know is popular or continue following my heart, because I know eventually the value will be recognized? I am so glad I chose to follow my heart and trust my intuition because being myself turned out to be the reason why people love my work. I am continually evolving and recreating my expression, and while it can be nervewracking at times because I don’t always know how my audience will respond, I feel great about it because I am living and creating in alignment with who I really am. This is vital to me.

My advice to young women starting their journey is this: Walk the path that makes sense and intuitively feels right for YOU. Have a strong ‘WHY’ for what you do. There will be many opinions and an abundance of “advice” that will give you reason to question absolutely everything. In these moments, always check in with yourself and remember your ‘WHY’. Whether it is because you want to change the world, or you simply want to share your work, your ‘WHY’ will silence the noise and help you discern your next step. Additionally, giving up should never be an option. To succeed, you must continuously pick yourself up after you fail (and you will), utilize what you learn, and KEEP going. Believe in yourself. Take risks. Even when you don’t know what will happen next, the only option is to make it all work FOR you.

Please tell us about Amarisland.
I am a healer, utilizing my personal experiences and the human experience to bring awareness to the impact of subconscious programming, the influence of thought and language, and the importance of energy and intention in the manifestation of your life.

I am an artist, specializing in one of a kind, handmade crystal jewelry and art that are infused with intentional energy, meant to attract the individuals who will learn and grow from it.

I am a sound alchemist and vocalist, raising frequencies of the body, mind, and spirit to address dis-ease through the use of my voice, original meditations, crystal singing bowls, Tibetan singing bowls, tuning forks, and more.

I am an inspirational writer, speaker, and coach, embracing vulnerability and sharing in my humanness, to encourage others to step fully into their power and BE who they know they are meant to be.

I am the ‘Gem Sorceress’, known for finding and offering high quality, crystals and minerals that are infused with love, as well as providing wisdom and knowledge about them to anyone with an affinity for learning about them.

Many people seek out my work for a fresh perspective and to achieve higher frequencies in their daily existence. They come to learn and grow alongside me, as well as be a part of an awesome community of loving souls. They join the journey to be challenged and faced with their truth. This is something I am very proud of because I believe that everyone has the right to heal, feel loved, and believe in themselves. Sometimes, it takes talking openly, hearing that someone else sees the magic in you, or reading something that confirms your personal experience, in order to level up. This has always been the foundation for Amarisland and I am so grateful it remains at the forefront of my work.

What sets me apart from others is always intention. I believe that every action, thought, and interaction carries weight – it all creates ripples in the Universe. If I act from a place of fear, I create more fear. If I act from a place of love, I create more love. In my perspective, even the simplest tasks should be made intentional. For example, art should encourage the mind and heart to dive deeper into the unknown. Hugs should have a positive impact on someone’s entire day and inspire them to also hug people a little tighter. Words should be used wisely as they create your reality. I think that people feel this intention and love in my work.

Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
My parents are both immigrants and professionals. They knew what hard work looked like and what it takes to actualize dreams. They were always supportive of my creative endeavors and encouraged me to give my all to anything I wanted to achieve. They truly believed in me and they still do. They also taught me that no one is going to be more dependable than myself and that nothing in life comes for free – if I wanted to accomplish something, I needed to commit to it and challenge the naysayers. They definitely equipped me with a strong foundation and drive, and I am forever grateful to them for it.

Also important to note is that, as a kid I spent a lot of time alone in my room and up all night, writing, drawing, playing piano, and imagining all sorts of things. I also spent a LOT of time outside, playing in the dirt and appreciating nature. 100% this had an impact on the way I live out my life now. My inner child keeps me going.
