Life and Work with Ann Gelli Aranas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ann Gelli Aranas.

Ann, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was inspired to get into the beauty industry by estheticians who treated my severe acne after I had my child. They’ve shown how successful they are in their field, they love what they do while having flexible schedules and making a difference in people’s lives. Working full time as a registered nurse during the day, I went to esthetician school at night for six months. It seemed so long, but those tiring days and sleepless nights, I became licensed right before my eyes. I rented a room in a spa in El Cajon right away. I grew my clientele through promotional ads and by word of mouth. I eventually trained for Lash Extension, which fell in love with because seeing my clients’ happy faces after a complete set was extremely fulfilling while I transform and enhance their beauty. My clients report how their confidence is boosted and improved their work performance because they feel better about themselves. Now, I’m focusing on lashes and semi-permanent makeup services (eyebrows). I still work full time as a registered nurse and part-time in esthetics because not only they’re rewarding, they are personally and professionally fulfilling. When you love what you do, you feel that you are living your life even when you’re at work.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the reasons why I love meeting and caring for my clients is that we mutually inspire each other to be better individuals not only for ourselves but also our community. The journey was definitely challenging with tears, failure, heartaches along with laughter, success, and happiness. We all have struggles that we go through during the process, but that’s the nature of achieving your dream. To get to where we want to be, we must put an extra effort, make conscientious compromises, take risks, expect failure, walk the talk, and keep in mind the reasons why we do what we do.

Please tell us about Glam Face.
I specialize in eyelash extensions and permanent make up/eyebrows. My main focus is client safety and satisfaction as well as creating that special relationship where we all can genuinely connect, inspire, and motivate each other to be better people personally and professionally.

Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
Growing up, I was shy and afraid of disappointments. I always aimed to make my parents proud. I came out of my shell when I became a card dealer at a casino in San Diego (blackjack and roulette were the main card games I dealt). At that time, I met players at their best as well as their worst. Being a dealer required me to be interactive and sociable with players. Additionally, it trained me to be brave, firm, and in-charge of my game gracefully while maintaining excellent customer service. The experience at that job taught me that clients deserve to be respected and appreciated as we exist because of them. Lastly, it taught me that once I become fearless, everything becomes limitless.
