Today we’d like to introduce you to Becky Cortez.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started in fitness in the early 90’s as a newly divorced wife/mother of 4 sons, trying to figure out how I could help support my family post-divorce… After taking the certification program that UCSD offered in ‘Health Science and Fitness Management’ and ACE for group fitness and personal trainer, I set off to make a mark in the world of health and wellness. Started out by teaching fitness to pre/postnatal women in the mid to late 90’s.
Later produced the first Mom/Baby exercise video in the late 90’s which sold over 250 thousand videos internationally, sponsored by Scripps Hospital. Then became a fitness expert for ABC news San Diego for 11 years. Brought fitness to the workplace also in the late 90’s through 2018 to corporations such as SAIC, which is now Lideos, Scripps Corporate Office and QUALCOMM INC. With 28 contract employees working for me, as I kept very long hours managing the clients, schedule, training etc, I keep my eyes open for opportunities. Was there a company I could align myself in the health and wellness arena? My prayer was answered not in the way I imagined. Moving into a completely different line of work which is person to person known as network marketing; which consists of sharing your story, building relationships was completely new to me.
Through this process of stepping out of my comfort zone relating to people differently has been quite a learning experience, both humbling and rewarding. Humbling, because I have to share a part of me that I never had to share in the fitness arena. In the direct sales industry or person to person network marketing business; people have to learn more about ‘you’ and that is why they do business with you. It is quite upside down from my previous business, which was more about your experience, education, qualifications and resume. The reward is the deep personal growth, continuing to helping others while casting a net bigger than I ever imagined.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been a hard road starting my new business because I keep getting in my own way! The hardest part is sharing about myself as I am a very private person. Becoming vulnerable is not fun or easy for anyone, but it makes you relatable.
Advice I would give is: being vulnerable gives strength and courage for yourself and for others. Life is short, each day matters, forgive not only others that hurt you but also yourself. As a strong person of faith and believer in God, you will most certainly live a much happier life if you adopt the following statement as your own: ‘Love one another as I have loved you.’ That is the true challenge of the heart, mind and soul for me.

-What do I do? I bring to market a medical breakthrough technology, nutrigenomics. Addressing the health of our bodies, from both the inside and out. I educate, inspire, support and uplift those I serve and work with.
-What do I specialize in? Connecting, I am a connector. It comes naturally probably because I am a good listener and enjoy serving and helping others.
-What are you known for? Serving others.
-What are you most proud of? Personally, being a Mom. In business being a risk taker.
-As an organization? Part of a life-changing company, that is a leader in the world of a new medical technology; nutrigenomics. A technology that is changing health and turning the medical world upside down! Since I have always been ahead of the curve in my line of work, it is extremely exciting to continue down that same path of new innovative technology that changes lives!
-As a service provider? Besides being of service? Sharing the beauty of network marketing. Dispelling the myths attached to the industry. Done right, it is the best business you can build for residual income if all the components line up. I could speak volumes on what to look for and why, but just suffice to know that an individual is able to make a larger footprint in a positive way in this industry when you find the right company, products, timing and compensation plan.
-What sets me apart? Being authentically me. Growing up in a large family, where I had 7 siblings was often chaotic. There was always something going on for fun and games with a family of that size with many wonderful childhood memories. There was also a dark side of abuse that has taken me a lifetime to heal from. Learning how to deal with obstacles, as well as having the tenacity to never to give up, has been a huge blessing in my life. Over time the pain became the catalyst to face and deal with the issues that had held me back for so many years. Once I was able to face my fears, I was able to be truly authentically me. Released from the bondage of shame that overshadowed my heart for so many years created the awareness and the importance of forgiveness.

- I am not sure what the pricing you are inquiring? How much to be a business builder/partner in my business? That is 1,200. A customer anywhere from 40.00 up.
- I do an inspirational speaking presentation the most I get paid is 2,000.00 an hour, the least is 500.00 from smaller organizations.
- Hired to do fundraising events, I get 10% of total sales plus salary depending on the length of time to prepare as well as the size of the event.
