Life and Work with Catherine Seelie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Catherine Seelie.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Catherine. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
While I have been a photographer since 2014 shortly after my son was born, I have only recently incorporated personal mentoring into my business. Growing up, I suffered from multiple forms of abuse, including sexual abuse since the age of three years old. Throughout my teenage years, I suffered tremendously from depression, anxiety and panic attacks.

After becoming a mother, and discovering spirituality and mindfulness training, I was able to completely transform my life by beginning from the inside. I have spent the last ten years studying psychology, while also incorporating spirituality, quantum physics, and energy healing.

In 2016, I became ill and bedridden for many months. During this time, I was able to take my practice even further and began to come into my shamanic gifts. While working with my spiritual teacher, I was able to heal not only my body but my mind and past as well.

It is now my hope to mentor others who feel stuck in their own lives, and as if nothing will ever change. I want everyone to realize that no matter where or who you have been, you have the ability to recreate yourself and begin again.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Although I’d love to say it was an easy road to healing, it was most definitely not (my husband can oblige to that as well)! This path has taken a great amount of willpower, and trust in myself and the Universe – which is something I never had before. I have had to stand by and relax as many people and things in my life were stripped away. I am still going through this right now after three years into the process.

I have realized throughout this experience that so much of healing our past traumas spiritually and energetically, will manifest physically. I have had days spent in bed or coughing up old energy after reiki sessions or intense meditations. My body will become sick, and I will have to detox all of the old “stuff” out. But I am always shown the changes emotionally, relationally, and physically in my life after these transitions.

My advice is to find a mentor, or spiritual community if this is something you are undergoing. Almost always, this person or community will find you, but if you are seeking this transformation and have not been pushed into it like I was, I highly recommend having a support system (which I offer).

In order to become the person you want to be, you just have to go for it. You can change who you are any day of the week! And every single day is a new opportunity to wake up and begin again.

Please tell us about Catherine Julia Art & Wellness.
My business currently has two parts to it – Lifestyle Photography and Healing and Transformation. I photograph couples, children, families, and military homecomings (which are my favorite!). I am also a mentor to photographers just starting out or those that are hobbyists hoping to turn their art into a business.

The Healing and Transformation aspect of my business is all about healing from traumas and the past. I offer a mindset mentoring program where I work one-on-one with you to begin unraveling the inner workings of your mind and understanding the subconscious or even conscious thoughts that are holding you back and keeping you stuck in your current situation. This mentorship is the first step towards transforming a negative or overwhelmed mindset and learning to navigate through feelings of anxiety or depression. Throughout the program, I incorporate distance energy healing, shamanic practices, psychology, mindfulness training, and multiple other modalities in order to redirect your energy and begin to transform your life.

I am extremely proud to have created this business all on my own, with the support of my amazing husband. I was a single mother for many years, living off of close to nothing with an awful past and very little self-esteem. I am in awe when I look at where I am today and all that I have accomplished. My life story and my shamanic gifts are what set me apart from the rest, and although it took me some time to be able to speak about so much, I could not be more proud of who I have become because of all that I have endured.

Who have you been inspired by?
The women who have inspired me in my life have been the ones that have overcome obstacles. Growing up as a troubled teen, I had an on and off relationship with my mother. Throughout this time, there were multiple women who came into my life and took over that role. They would tell me of their own struggles, and share their stories, allowing me to share my own. These women never judged me, or looked down upon me – they built me up. Without these few women, I would not be who I am today (and you know who you are while you read this!).

Another woman that has inspired me is, of course, my mother. I didn’t see it for a long time, but she gave me as much of herself as she could. My mother also came from a difficult past, but she was able to move forward and create the life for her children that she wasn’t able to have. She is strong, resilient, and so giving to those in need.
The women I have looked up to throughout my healing journey have been Louise Hay, Gabrielle Bernstein, and my spiritual teacher. These are perfect examples of people who have overcome so much in order to begin again and become something great.
