Life and Work with Chantel Briann

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chantel Briann.

Chantel, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Located in San Diego, California, Coco Chantel Candles was established in 2017 with a mission to enlighten your environment one candle at a time. Combining a passion for a clean earth and love for candles, Coco Chantel created a product with minimum environmental impact.

I started making candles in my kitchen and knew I could take an innovative approach in the candle industry, in which mainstream candle companies offer generic, mass-produced products without considerations for health or environment.

Coco Chantel Candles are natural soy wax, eco-friendly, cruelty-free and carefully hand poured in small batches, infused with essential oils and phthalate-free fragrances. The lead-free cotton wick leaves your candle burning longer & cleaner. The candles are natural, recyclable, sustainable and provide a healthier alternative for you and your home!

I believe fragrance has the power to ignite memories, evoke emotions, and uplift the mind and soul. All Coco Chantel Candles are mixed, poured and packaged by hand, with love.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a relativity smooth road, however some of the biggest challenges include: frequent and fast adjustments to the product to stay relevant with my target market and access to sufficient working capital to keep up with growing consumer demand.

My advice for other young women starting a company would be to identify your passion area (and make sure your venture aligns 100%), do your research (tons of it!), stay involved with your community for support and connections, never be afraid to ask other people for their help or advice (who doesn’t love giving advice?), and stay consistent with your business’ identity.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Coco Chantel Candles – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Coco Chantel Candles’ products are eco-friendly, cruelty-free, made with natural soy wax, and carefully hand-poured in small batches, infused with essential oils and phthalate-free fragrances. Crafted by the beach, these candles are inspired by the west coast Southern California lifestyle.

The origin of the name Coco Chantel Candles derives from being an animal lover and wanting my dog’s name to be a part of the brand. I proudly donate proceeds to San Diego animal rescue organizations.

There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
Staying involved in the community and attending networking events have helped tremendously with making meaningful connections along the way.

I’ve found it very helpful to study your entrepreneurial role models. Some people will know exactly what they want to do at a very young age, but some will try many different paths. One of my favorite quotes is from Deepak Chopra that says, “If only I knew then, as I know now, that there is wisdom in uncertainty — it opens a door to the unknown, and only from the unknown can life be renewed constantly.”
