Life and Work with Imelda Lachica

Today we’d like to introduce you to Imelda Lachica.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m a 43 years old mom of 4, who moved to America in 1998. I was born and raised in Singapore. My dance and fitness journey began in 2006 when I lived in Memphis, TN. I don’t have a dance background but I’ve always loved to dance since I was little. I love all genres of dance. I started teaching basic salsa classes for a couple of years and then Zumba Fitness in 2006. Nu Fit Diva Movement was created by myself in 2010 while still living in Memphis! It is a women-only class, and I mainly wanted to inspire all women to come together in a safe and judge free environment, to network, build confidence, step out of their comfort zone and build relationships through dance. I believe anyone can dance. Dance is a form of therapy for myself and many of my students! Nu Fit Diva is more than just a dance class. It’s a movement. Nu Fit Diva is about Women Empowering Women through Dance!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been truly a mind-blowing experience for me throughout the years. I have learned so much about myself as a person in my dance fitness journey. For me, it wasn’t all about me. As much as I loved how my body feels, and how dancing has helped me to cope a lot from my personal life’s struggles, I knew that I was able to help others through my passion while sharing my testimonies as well.

My advice to everyone is to be passionate about whatever you choose to do in life and ask yourself what is your true purpose. Surround yourself with like-minded people who support your passion, purpose, and vision.

Surround yourself with positivity. Build long lasting relationships and don’t be afraid to share your story as well. You never know whose life you may touch.

Please tell us about Nu Fit Diva.
I have been teaching dance fitness for about 12 years and I’m focusing more now on my Nu Fit Diva Movement to inspire women through dance.

I believe what sets me apart from others is that I do have my own unique style of teaching. I teach women to build confidence and self-love through my movement. I embrace each woman that come to my classes with love and coach them to be future leaders of their own lives as well.

I’m most proud when I know I have touched someone’s life by inspiring them in more than one way.

Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well positioned for?
There are always opportunities for us as women to be positioned in any field we choose to be in. We need to step out of our comfort zones and push boundaries. Support one another as a community and help each other grow to our maximum potentials. We need to focus more on what we are capable of doing and achieving rather than focusing on the media. There’s always going to be challenges. It’s life!
