Life & Work with Katy Clark

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katy Clark.

Hi Katy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Being a single mom of three small kids was exhausting and at times, very daunting. About a decade ago I started dating again as an outlet to have adult time and enjoy meeting people. I found that being an extrovert, positive about dating and taking care of myself was helpful in getting asked on a lot of dates. Upon going for a date for a Matchmaking company, I asked if I could join the team. I felt that I brought a lot of insight from my years of post-divorce dating experience.

Throughout my seven years of being a Matchmaker, I’ve also grown into becoming a date coach. Dating after divorce, or during your midlife years is very different than for people in the early 20’s looking to be married. The strategy and the tools to find the right person are unique to you. I have help hundreds of people figure out the best way for them to find someone great, while staying positive.

Matchmaking is like being an executive recruiter. Plus it’s such a fun opportunity to meet amazing singles and help them to have successful dating strategies! I not only help clients find amazing dates, including the location, but to make sure they are styled and confident. I believe in “old school standards with new school style”. I have many touch points while working with my clients and am available “almost” 24/7

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One important lesson I have learned in matchmaking, and one I can apply in life, is about understanding people’s perceptions of how the date went. The beauty of working with a matchmaker is that there is safety and accountability. After every date I always ask for feedback so that I can help with the behavior of our clients, and to ensure their dates were quality choices. But not every date is a winner, and often the stories are not in line. I say there are always three sides to every story. His side, her side and the truth.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a matchmaker the most important part of my clients success is coaching them throughout the process. I can get you a first date, but can you get yourself a second date?

My matchmaking technique is fully encompassing and focuses on making you confident, successful and having fun. From the perfect outfit, to a great venue, to the most important part- personal confidence, I am available to them for every step.

For men, tips like having a drink waiting for your date, ordering wine for her when you don’t know your wine well, and how to let her know you like her, without it being creepy. For females it’s about the kind of outfits men find attractive, how to understand their behavior on a date and how to let him know you like him without it seeming desperate.

I’m also unique in that I provide coaching only services. Many people just need insight into how to successfully maneuver the apps, dates and breakups. I’m here just for that too.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I have a weekly “HUMP DAY LOVE DAY” video on Wednesdays on my IG @datingwithkaty giving simple strategies to your complicated dating questions. Plus I love to highlight other great dating teachers to encourage you in your game!

My favorite book for women (and pardon the title) is “The Power of the Pussy” as it reminds women of their value and helps them create standards in their dating life- a must do for success!

Great books for relationships are “Love and Respect” and “The Five Love Languages” and “Men are from Mars women are from Venus”. Old school but so good.
