Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristy Swanson.
Kristy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
The Nurture Blog started as a creative outlet project, a way for me to express myself through writing. After turning 40 I felt a real pull to do some self-exploration and find out what I want to do with the second half of my life. The blog topics are centered around the women, services and brands that nurture and renew my body, mind and spirit.
My original intent was to share uplifting experiences with other women to encourage all of us to make time for self-care. Over the last year and a half, the blog following has grown as has my tribe of women friends and colleagues. My favorite part of blogging has been the web of strong female connections that has grown as a result. Meeting, supporting, connecting women makes my heart sing.
Has it been a smooth road?
I don’t think that there are many worthwhile roads to travel in this life that are without bumps, curves or unexpected roadblocks. Navigating the world of social media is second nature for most millennials. For me on the other hand, there is a huge learning curve. No one has gotten around to writing the “Social Media for Dummies.” So everything I have learned has been learned from trial and error. In terms of advising younger women as they journey towards their own dreams, I would say work hard, never give up and take breaks as needed.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Nurture Blog – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a natural cheerleader and connector. Providing encouragement and connections to those in my circle gives me great joy. I discovered these gifts some time ago but never knew how they could be best used. I specialize in finding brands that I love and connecting them with other brands as a way for all of us to grow.
I also get great satisfaction in introducing my friends, family members and followers to brands and services I love. If there was a career in writing uplifting reviews for yelp or google, that is what I’d be doing. The Nurture Blog is my version of that, positive reviews, spreading the good news.
I am proud of what I have accomplished with The Nurture Blog to date and I look forward to continuing to grow and evolve the brand. The unknown excites me.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
I have liked following the Skinny confidential. Even though we are in different niches and age groups, she has worked to become a successful influencer and I respect her hard work and success. She introduced me to the podcast. I finally found the app on my phone a couple months ago. I have listened to her and another great podcast she recommended the Tim Ferris show. I enjoy reading.
There was a time in y life I had read every self-help book on the market. I have not made as much time for reading lately but “Jesus, Calling” is in my bathroom. A beautiful devotional, I find really encouraging and helpful. I think anything that motivates and encourages is a must for everyone. It could be a friend, a podcast, a book, we all need to be purposeful about positivity in our lives in order to generate it as it is so easy to allow yourself to get bogged down in the negative.
