Life and Work with Kyla Dahrling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyla Dahrling.

Kyla, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I worked in pharmaceutical sales for over ten years, and after having my second child, I found it hard to juggle my career and be a mom of 2 kids under three years old. I tried to go part-time, but my company denied it, so I decided to quit my career and stay at home with my kids. I was hoping to find something part time where I could work from home but found out that part-time jobs were really difficult to come by. After becoming frustrated with the lack of opportunity, I decided to start a little side business… I just wasn’t sure what I wanted to do.

Around this time, my daughter started pulling at her hair when she would get frustrated and created a little bald spot on her head. I looked everywhere for baby hats but didn’t have much luck. That’s when I decided to start creating some for her. My friends saw them and started asking me to make some for their kids, and things naturally evolved into a business. That’s how Tiny Trucker Co. was born.

Has it been a smooth road?
Starting a business is never a smooth road – there are a lot of sacrifices. Financially, starting a business is stressful on your family. I initially began to dabble with things as a side business, and then I ended up going back to work in pharmaceutical sales for a year and a half to keep up with the demand of the company. I was killing myself trying to balance it all. I was a business owner, a mom of two kids under five years old, a wife and had a full-time career. It was crazy, but I had a bigger plan, and I wanted Tiny Trucker Co. and my vision to succeed. I recently transitioned out of my job, and I am 100% in with Tiny Trucker. I haven’t looked back since.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Tiny Trucker Co. – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Tiny Trucker Co is a mom-driven business focused on high quality & stylish hats to keep everyone in the family truckin’ in style!

Everyone that works for Tiny Trucker is a female with the majority of our team being moms to young children. I feel empowered being surrounded by all of these women juggling it all… #momlife. We currently have over 20 people working for the company. I often get asked if Tiny Trucker is a multi-level marketing company, but we are not – we are a SCorp. We have a sales and marketing team, an operations team, and someone managing our social media. I’m most proud of the fact that we’ve built a company solely ran by women and that we continue to grow our business. It’s amazing what women can accomplish when we all support one another.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
I love the podcast “How I built this”. It interviews a ton of Entrepreneurs. I highly recommend it.

I also love the book The Power of Now.
