Life and Work with Marissa & Meredith Daly

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marissa & Meredith Daly.

Marissa and Meredith, please share your story with us.
In college, during our Undergraduate degree, we were getting asked every day where we got our outfits from, where we shopped, and that we were so stylish. So many of our friends and family begged us to start a fashion blog not only as a hobby but also to help others with their fashion quests and questions. We began our blog, Your Daly Dose because it was our goal to post every single day. Thus, towards the end of our Undergrad, our blog began to pick up- we were getting hundreds of followers every single day. People seemed to be in awe of the fact that not only were we twins but were best friends! Since Instagram was a lot different a few years ago, our photos would go viral almost every single time we posted. This was how we were able to grow so fast in such a short amount of time. Once we began Graduate school, we began posting almost every single day but weren’t growing as fast as before. We learned about the Instagram algorithm changes, but that was not going to stop us from continuing our Blog. We loved fashion and our Blog’s following too much to stop what we had begun. It was very tough to be consistent with posts, photoshoots, etc. while being in an accelerated MBA program, but somehow we managed! One day while scrolling through our Instagram feed, we saw a post from Fashion Week San Diego (FWSD) asking for Designers in the San Diego area to have an interview to possibly show a line down the FWSD runway. Only designing dresses on paper at the time, we thought we would give it a try! Within the month, we flew to our Grandparent’s house in Arizona where our Grandma and Aunt taught us the basics of sewing. Getting back to San Diego, we bought some fabric and began sewing one dress each so we would have something to show for the interview. Thankfully, the FWSD members liked what they saw and understood our asthenic, and invited us to show for the next runway show. We will never forget the feeling of watching our designs flow down the runway because our fashion visions truly came to life that night.

Today, we are working for our Dad’s Insurance business along with our fashion blog and a little fashion design as well! We love where we live, and the many opportunities we have the privilege to experience in our beautiful city. We know that without the support of our family and friends, we could not be where we are today – and for that, we are so grateful. We hope our story can be an inspiration to others who share the same dreams as we do!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We don’t believe anything in life really goes exactly as one plan, but we try to make the most of every bump in the road that comes our way. Some of our struggles for our blog would be the Instagram changes like the algorithm that really disrupted our blog’s growth. Although this happened to everyone alike, it did cause some doubt and discouragement. We are very optimistic, a trait we get from our parents, so we try to always look on the bright side of every situation. In this case, we looked at it as a challenge to continue to grow our blog even though it would be more difficult for our photos to be seen by our followers- let alone new people. Our advice is to always be positive and grateful for any success along one’s journey. No one person’s journey is the same, thus, make the best of your own journey – that is the key to success and happiness!

Please tell us about YourDalyDose Blog & { as much again // The Label }.
We have branded ourselves as a twin, lifestyle and fashion blog. We want to be able to encourage people everywhere to do what they love as well as look to us for inspiration. Not only do we take photos of clothes and products to promote for companies that we love, but we have an aesthetic that we want to portray: beauty, femininity, along with being strong, athletic women. We believe we are set apart from others because we are twins. We are alike and yet unique at the same time. Through our photos, we always want to portray to all people, that beauty can be seen in everyone. Companies seem to like to work with us because this comes across in our photos.

There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
Finding a mentor or network can be found anywhere. For us, we began just by following other fashion and lifestyle blogs and Instagram’s that we love and were inspired by. This grew to us networking with fellow bloggers and going to events and getting to know the industry, people, and brands that it’s made up of. Attending events for companies seems to work well for us because we meet so many new people that we can bounce ideas off of, collaborate, and even work together for campaigns or various projects.
