Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Seifert.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Sara. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I always wanted to do hair ever since I was a little girl. But things kept getting in the way. When I was 32, I finally started cosmetology school and graduated the next year. I am married and I have two small children, so going to school at night was not easy but I’m proud of myself for doing it. It started off in a salon in Kensington and moved to Millicent and Company in La Mesa in the summer of 2017.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s very hard being a working mom but I think they are what make it worth it. They really push me to work harder and be the best that I can possibly be. Since I love what I do, I never feel like I’m working, so I would recommend doing something you enjoy with everybody.

I’ve been doing a lot of weddings, which I really enjoy. I love working with brides and being a small part of their special day. In the salon, I love doing color, especially blondes.
Do you think there are structural or other barriers impeding the emergence of more female leaders?
I really think women just need to support each other more and not see each other as a threat. If one of us succeeds, we all succeed.
