Life and Work with Silvana Barrios Pereyra

Today we’d like to introduce you to Silvana Barrios Pereyra.

Silvana, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am a graphic designer from the University of Buenos Aires (Argentina) and I also studied photography. I studied (shoe design) in Arsutoria School – Milan, Italy and in Slem – The Netherland.

I started to design shoes at my home in Argentina in February 2012, just for fun. I designed three pairs of flats and opened a Facebook page and then, quickly realized that many people really loved my classical, romantic shoe designs.

I was still working in an office job at the time, and it was difficult to balance my “real” job with taking shoe-making classes and purchasing leather and other materials needed to realize my vision. But I loved it because I was designing shoes and purses that were my own creations, an expression of my personality, so I pursued my passion and made it work. I now dedicate myself full-time to June.

In recent years, I have showcased our products at the Rho Fiera in Milan and Bread n Butter in Berlin.

In 2017, I took the exciting step of expanding to the U.S. at first online and cross fingers at the end of September an Open Studio, so everybody can visit us.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It wasn’t easy, but it was worth it every minute. At first, I was dealing with corporate work and staying up late so I could do what I really liked.

My biggest obstacle was the economic one but it was one step at a time and I never gave up.

In the life of the entrepreneur as in life, there are always obstacles that we have to go through, there is only one way to face them, looking for the solution without wasting time trying to understand the problem or who did it, or why happen this to me.

Tips: Perseverance even if everything is against you. I think you will be happy doing something you really love and more if you do it with passion and believe in yourself, that everything you do is worth it.

For those who are just starting out or thinking about it, do it, don’t hesitate.

Think positively and move forward. Surround yourself with people who empower you, who you admire, who transmit energy to you, and do the same for them.

And for those who are in the middle: important detail, knowing how to learn to delegate (when the time comes) and being explicit when delegating a task, what I take for granted is one way for another person may not be.

Please tell us about June Handmade Shoes.
Like an octopus, I design, I select and buy the leathers, heels, insoles, lasts shoes (all the materials necessary for the manufacture of the shoes and leather goods), in the part of the production I am behind every detail, in the finishing of the shoe.

Made to order is one of the specialties of June Handmade Shoes, customize the shoe.
The customer can choose one of our styles, select the leathers and colors and in between 30 to 40 days we send the order to their home.

What sets us apart: we make handmade shoes with the best cobbles with the best quality leather, with a very marked identity and above all, super comfortable in a few quantities, almost uniques.

Which is what I love most, to design and see people’s expressions when they try them on.

What makes me really happy and prouder is that the customers who bought 3 or 4 years ago still choose us.
