Life & Work with Alexus Danisha

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexus Danisha.

Hi Alexus, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started when I was 15 in my small hometown of less than 3000 people. When I started, I was very self-conscious of my curves so I tried to channel that into fitness and started posting about my fitness/health journey on Instagram. I gained a following of 2500 people within a week and realized there was a demographic for women who support other women in the body positive movement. That launched my career in content creation with the intention of inspiring other women to embrace their curves, wear clothing they never thought they could and creating business opportunities out of my love of fashion and the Lack of inclusivity in the fashion industry.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say some of my biggest struggles have been staying true to the mission and not getting pigeonholed into an industry that oversexualizes curvy women. As well as resisting urges to getting cosmetic procedures or giving into diet culture that has proved to be harmful and is pushed onto influencers for promotion.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m most proud of creating different facets of expressing my self-love, body positivity and sensuality that women can relate too and feel inspired by to create their own expression and definition for what self-love is to them.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Having my safe space on the internet (IG YouTube) was like having a family. Being able to connect with my supporters and sharing what we were all going through. It reminded me why I do what I do because through hardship, I still had a loyal community ready to come together for one another.
