Life & Work with Brooke Clark

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Clark.

Hi Brooke, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I personally became a single mother of a 3-year-old and a 6-week-old at the age of 22. The father of my children did not contribute financially or emotionally at all to my boys, so I vowed to myself that I would give my children every opportunity that a child deserves. I didn’t want the fact that I was single-parent household to define our family. I was blessed to have a support system of family and friends that continually encouraged and helped me raise my boys. With this support, I was able to overcome a lot of the challenges that I faced. I knew that when I was going through this journey I wanted to have the opportunity to use my story to help other single mothers who are struggling and might not have a support system. Fast forward to today now married and have the opportunity & means to be able to give back, I opened Love Her Chic Boutique In 2020 with a business model to bring more awareness to the cause and to give back a portion of all sales to nonprofits that support, empower and encourage women going through single parenthood. Having the opportunity to do something that I love while giving back to a cause that is often overlooked by society and is so very close to my heart is a true blessing.

In the short time that we have been open, we’ve met so many amazing women and have donated to many great causes/nonprofits including single mothers that are local to Southern CA, Single Mom Strong & Smart Moms.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Yes! I’ve learned a lot on this little adventure of opening the boutique. I couldn’t have ever imagined how much growth and healing this boutique would bring. The response and outpour of love from other women and having them share their stories has been one of the highlights of this entire process. Not only helping women feel confident & beautiful on the outside but on the inside too! I’m very grateful for all that have supported, believed in me, & helped make this dream a reality.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Even as a young girl I always loved fashion and all things girly. As a teenager, my mom and I had many special shopping dates of long hours spent at the local mall putting outfits together. It was a passion of mine to put pieces together. I often had friends that always wanted to borrow my clothes or when it was time to clean out the closet to make room for new things, I had many friends that wanted first dibs on the items I was getting rid of. Even as an adult this passion for styling outfits did not fade.

Becoming a single mom at such a young age was one of the hardest times in my life but also the most rewarding. The boutique combines both of those passions, we keep women’s closets stocked with fun, fashion-forward, unique but still affordable styles that make them feel beautiful and confident while being able to inspire/help other women who are going through single parenthood.

In society, this cause is often overlooked. It is a real problem:

1 in 4 children in the U.S. under the age of eighteen is raised by a single mother, which is nearly 15 million households in the US.

Only a third of single mothers receive any child support.

Millions of moms are left to struggle to survive on less than adequate incomes.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My advice for those that are starting out is to not give up! You will have days that you doubt yourself and what you are doing but, on those days, keep going and remember why you started. Write out goals and not only have a plan but set a schedule on how you will achieve the goals that you set. If something you are doing is not working, DO NOT QUIT just pivot and try a different way to get you to the goal.
