Today we’d like to introduce you to Julyanna Ortega.
Hi Julyanna, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started a little over four years ago. My love for coffee and pastries have always been an important part of my life. After working in a boutique hotel in the community in the administrative area, I realized that my true passion was elsewhere. That’s why after a few years, I decided to open Taller 17. At first, it was not easy. I faced many problems but with the help of family and friends, I was able to overcome them.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely, that an oven does not work in a bakery is a big problem!! At first, I had to run to my aunt’s kitchen, who lives next door, to have something to offer my clients. I was alone and I had to do everything from production to the next morning to sweeping the floor.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We are a small bakery and we offer cookies, scones, brownies, muffins, etc. We take great pride in having a fresh-baked bakery for most of the day. Our brownies and scones are the star of our store. We also offer coffee, matcha, kombucha, among others. Also, the atmosphere that is felt every morning is incredible since we managed to count on the support of tourists and locals! It is the best!!
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Since our bakery space is very small, we do not have a place to offer other products. We have locally roasted coffee, kombucha from the area and we always try to buy local products that are in season.
