Life and Work with Mailynn Nguyen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mailynn Nguyen.

Mailynn, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started out doing nails, got my nail license in 2009, worked dead-end jobs, went back and got my cosmetology license in 2012, did hair (wasn’t for me), manage a nail shop, did admin work, more dead-end jobs. I went and got certified to become a lash artist on January 19, 2020, and grew fast from there. I was always at dead-end jobs, getting laid off, living from paycheck to paycheck. In my last job, I was at my boss didn’t appreciate me or have my back and threaten to fire me. She made me feel so low and sad when she told me that, that I knew I had to push myself to get out of that situation that I kept telling myself FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION! Now I live by it!

Every time I wanted to give up on lashing because it was so tedious I kept telling myself FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION!! Even at times I wanted to throw my tweezers across the room!! My fiancé would stick his head in the room and whisper, FOCUS! YOU got this! I basically breathe, study, google, listen to podcasts and would be in my home lash studio on a Friday night until 4 am practicing while everyone was clubbing I sat there and kept practicing! (That’s how bad I wanted it) if it wasn’t for all those nights, I wouldn’t be where I am now… have a whole team under my brand, my own product line and shop. I knew I wanted to become a lash mentor instructor when I realize I figured so many tips and tricks and how hard it was that I wanted to help others and boss them up and get out of situations and have financial freedom! Fast forward, I got certified to become an instructor and now I have certified over 150+ students. 🙏🏼 Still trying to build and grow as I go.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It most definitely has not been a smooth road, I struggled in the beginning, especially during this pandemic but it was a blessing in disguise for me to grow. Having your own business and running it is a lot of work! When I moved my team and I into the shop, I literally screamed twice but it was so worth it and I’ll do it all over again! Lashing has become my passion and has definitely changed my life forever.

What were you like growing up?
I was always the wild kid who always fought, went out and party with friends a lot, always fought other people’s battles. Outside look mean but once you got to know me I am the sweetest caring person you’ll ever meet.
