Meet Mandi Duong

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mandi Duong.

Hi Mandi, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m Mandi, founder of Blyssen. After struggling to get pregnant, I was super fearful of possibly harming my growing baby. I had a difficult time find products that I was comfortable using while growing a baby. I stopped taking care of my skin altogether. Now, I am working to repair the damage I did. This is now part of my beauty story.

I studied aromatherapy and have been formulating handmade skincare for over five years. My pregnancy was complicated and wasn’t allowed to do much, so I put my aromatherapy studies on hold. Becoming a mom was a huge turning point for me. I became so obsessed with being the perfect mom that I put myself on the back burner. I completely lost who I was.

I started Blyssen for myself and other moms who struggle appreciating their new mom self. I launched my website ( to the public a year ago. I have since helped sponsor a Moms on Maternity event and some of my products are available at Local Niche in UTC. I choose to pursue my dreams because I want to be a role model for my daughter while being able to experience life with her.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I have a sweet and spunky toddler who keeps me on my toes. I also work full-time in addition to running my own business. It has been a journey learning to balance all the different hats. Sometimes my daughter doesn’t nap and I’m often exhausted by the time we finally get her into bed. It is not always easy to find the time to work on my business, but I make it happen.

I had the idea to start my business before the pandemic and all of my marketing plans we based around in-person interaction. It has been a challenge adapting to a fully online marketing platform, especially when people can’t try my products first hand. When you get to feel the texture of the hand salve and instantly feel your hands soften, the product sells itself. I struggle to portray that online. I also specialize in face oils which a lot of people are spectacle to try because they imagine the oil to be heavy and greasy. Pop-ups and markets are becoming more frequent and I hope to venture into that space soon.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Blyssen is a skincare/self-care brand. I specialize in small-batch, handmade natural skincare products that are gentle enough for kids yet effective for moms. My products are fragrance-free and safe for use during pregnancy and beyond. I help moms reconnect with their true selves while taking time to care for themselves and their skin. I don’t want moms to worry about what is going into their bodies while taking care of their skin. I help moms rebuild their confidence while redefining their beauty. Beauty starts by loving every part of yourself and the story it tells, so you can glow both inside and out.

As a mom, you can be pulled in 100 different directions at one time. I help you simplify your self-care routine by elevating everyday moments into self-care rituals. I am so proud to have done everything myself while having so much else on my plate. I made the commitment to start this business and see it through and although it isn’t easy, I love it. I have met so many amazing people over the last year who have helped myself and my business blossom. I am forever grateful. It is so easy to compare myself to others and judge how far I have come, but I am often praised for balancing it all. Sometimes I have to remember to just take it all in and celebrate what I have created and the roll model I want to be for my daughter.

What’s next?
Oh, I have so many ideas. I would love to join some local markets/pop-ups. Nothing beats meeting customers in person and seeing the difference I make. I would love to expand to more retail stores. I am working on a subscription service centered around self-care to help moms dedicate time to themselves. It will also include products not available anywhere else.

Ideally, I would like Blyssen to become my full-time business, so I can share my passion with my daughter and have the flexibility to experience her growing up. I’m always formulating new products, so keep an eye out. I’m also toying with adding other nonskincare products to the line-up, but this is still in development. I always want everything to be handmade to ensure quality and freshness. This factors into all future plans and dreams.
