Meet Samantha Cisneros

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Cisneros.

Hi Samantha, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My interest in nails started at a young age when all I knew was glitter nail polish. I was always the cousin painting everyone’s nails and toes. My neighbor did nails so I always found myself digging in her miscellaneous supplies, wondering what each one does. I was daddy’s little girl, so he always took me to the nail shops over school breaks and that’s when I discovered acrylic nails. I remember always saying, “I wanna do long nails when I grow up.”

My first nail kit was purchased when I was nine years old and I was so stressed out with it I never touched it again. Fast forward to when I turned 16 and had my first job, I purchased another kit from Wish and did a handful of nails, then again never touched it again. I started focusing on school and became a medical assistant for two years. I was getting my nails done at salons but was not always happy, so I decided that was it; I was going to follow my dreams. Here I am now, five years after high school, doing what I love the most.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was never a smooth road. Art and life itself is all about trial and error. I was practicing my art while still working full time. I experienced a lot of family losses on the way, too that took away from my time and focus. Health was a factor as well; hands-on practice was all I worried about, not thinking about how much it would affect my hands and back from improper ways of doing so.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a self taught nail technician who is currently enrolled for my manicurist license. I’m known as “slayed by sosa” for slaying all the nail sets! I was recognized because I was one of the first people who started doing nails from my year and area. I had so many girls wanting to support me but so little time. I had a lot of friends reach out too, letting me know that I inspired them to start and asking for tips. That’s what I’m proud of, letting girls see that if I can do it, so can they!

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Always follow your dreams. Always. Never let anyone’s negative comments affect what you’ve been working so hard for. Never give up and always keep pushing past every bumpy road. Success doesn’t happen overnight so you need to keep going until you are finally happy with your work and then keep going further!
