Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Tournet.
Hi Scott, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Elektric Voodoo started in 2016. We played our first show at the Belly Up in Solana Beach. Since then we have built this thing up very grassroots style. We booked our first national tour ourselves, did our own publicity, and took care of all the business side of things ourselves. Since then we’ve signed with a manager and booking agency and are about to embark on our 3rd national tour in support of our 3rd album ‘Telescope’.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We’ve had plenty of obstacles. Broken down vehicles, getting stuck in Colorado snow storms, a band member breaking both arms minutes before a gig. The power actually went out right before our first show.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a musician and we are a band. We specialize in dance music that is not computer based. We make people dance by playing real drums, percussion, and instruments which in this day and age sets us apart. We feel that the imperfection of the human beat is more entrancing than the perfect beat of a computer.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I came from a sports family so that’s what I was into. I didn’t even know being in a band was a possibility. Personality-wise I’m similar now to what I was then. Strong independent streak, untrusting of authority, fun and silly, up for a good time.
