Life & Work with Taniece Reed

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taniece Reed.

Hi Taniece, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Since 2016 I have made it my mission to teach people about situational-based safety situations & firearms. My passion started at a young age when I was educated about firearm safety through my father and uncle. As I got older, I realized that representation mattered to me when I wanted to get my first firearm license. After doing tons of research, I couldn’t find a knowledgeable African American woman to teach me in my area. So, I decided at that point it was important to have inclusiveness for all. After a year or so my mission quickly grew. I have been so fortunate to teach hundreds of people yearly with that number steadily growing. My biggest inspirations during my journey have been my children & today’s current environment. During times of uncertainty, people having other training skills help to alleviate the worry and mental stress from lots of situations.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
For me nothing about this process was smooth but with a clear vision and support, it has been more than worth it. During covid we saw a spike in people wanting to be armed for lots of the wrong reasons so for me it was an important time to make safety the forefront of Pretty Shooters. I have acquired other important skills such as CPR Instructor and Stop the Bleed Instructor to help lay the blueprint for everyone in the home. My struggles in business have actually made me think of myself as more of a safety coach verse just a firearms instructor.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a licensed firearms instructor located in the Maryland/DC area. I teach surrounding areas as well and even offer Multi-state CCWs. I’m also a Glock Armorer & Women’s Defensive Pistol Instructor. I would love for more people to understand that safety should be a lifestyle change.  My mission is very simple here, I love to network and teach like-minded people and families because I am a mom and a woman first. My goal is to have hundreds of people become safe and responsible firearms owners this year while using some quality products. I also want every child 10 and over to be CPR certified and for parents to get back to promoting safety from birth. I’m most proud of my feedback from every student because it gives me that first-time teaching feeling all over again.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
have lots of friends and people around me that have contributed to me being focused and successful. My father Taylor, My Uncle Dyke, a host of friends and loved ones, my sister Takia, my best friend Denise and her family, and my significant other Norman are all people who kept screaming keep going no matter what. My mother has been a big inspiration as well because before she passed in 2017, she was so happy that I found something that gave me a new drive. She’s actually the reason behind the name “Pretty Shooters Firearms”. To know that she named my now thriving business has been a phenomenal feeling.
